So this is a bit of a odd one but I have no idea how it all starts as my other 2 pregnancies I have been in hospital and induced and had my waters broken. But touch wood if my scan goes OK next week then I can just go natural but just wondering how other people's labours have started off. I am 35 weeks now with my 3rd.

All 3 of mine were different. 1 pains first, plug and waters went in hospital, 2 water trickled for days then eventually got pains, 3rd waters went with a pop in the night before pains.

GookledyGobb · 18/01/2019 17:30

I have precipitate labours so maybe not standard. #1 waters went in a flood and contractions started 2 hours later. #3 increasing BH, then a bit of bleeding, then my waters half an hour later and then contractions within 30 mins

Oysterbabe · 18/01/2019 17:31

My waters breaking then contractions both times.

Mummykaz90 · 18/01/2019 17:33

Hmm so basically anything could happen. Confused I'm scared of the unknown at least when I was induced I new what was happening and when in a sense.

@mummykaz90 I’ve been wondering the same as my little boy was induced. I’m 37 + 5 today and keep wondering what will happen first x

#1 Waters went with a pop, contractions started shortly afterwards. Born 7 hours later (39+6)

#2 On off contractions for a couple of days, started intensifying in the evening of 39+6. Born at 4 am (40w)

#3 Couple of false starts around due date. Sweep at 41+1. Contractions started at around 6pm of 41+2, started getting stronger around 9pm. Born 2.45am (41+3)

#4 Currently at 41+1. Not a twinge so far. Had sweep yesterday but no results yet. Think I will be pregnant forever.

Both times after a bath!

BertieBotts · 18/01/2019 21:34

Yep you can't plan for it.

First was normal braxton hicks which just ramped up slowly rather than easing off. They say if heat eases them they are BH whereas if it doesn't then it's labour. That was true for me.

Second waters went without any contractions at all at first, then they started, very mild, quite irregular and built up slowly.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 18/01/2019 22:19

Both of mine started by waking me with a contraction at 5.30am, no signs at all beforehand.

Dd2 was quite scary because I went from nothing to intense contractions every 90 seconds within an hour. She still took 15 hours to make an appearance though.

Angelmiracle · 18/01/2019 22:26

40+6 was out for a walk got a strong period type cramp from 3pm to 8.30pm every 20 mins not painful managed a nap 5pm. Then got closer together and stronger went to hospital for 1am 5cm dilated. Plug came away at 8cm in delivery suite bath and fully dilated before waters went!

NatureGal · 18/01/2019 22:37

My first waters went with a pop, but no contractions at 36+2, contractions started 12 hours later, Dc 1 born hour after contractions. Second, contractions started with a cramping, developed into less than 2 minutes apart and intense, Dc2 born 1.5 hours later in hospital. I did have my waters broken. Third, induction, Dc born with 30 minutes of drip administered. All precipitous labours, as less than 2 hours but different. I was shocked with dc1 as I was told relentlessly that your first is always late and I was booked for induction at 38weeks, I hadn't expected to go into Labour at home.

WinterWife · 18/01/2019 23:10

My waters trickled for weeks without me even realising (first pregnancy and honestly thought I was hustling weeing myself and it was a pregnancy problem). Woke one morning and it was pink (blood) so was rushed to hospital where they told me 😳 no contractions obviously and I had a good telling as it could have resulted in infection 😳

CollyWombles · 19/01/2019 02:12

Contractions with all four of mine, waters were all broken by midwife except dc2, hers went literally a minute or so before she was born. 10 hours with first, 7 hours with second, 6 hours with third and 4 hours with fourth. Wonder how quick dc5 will arrive in June.

knittedjest · 19/01/2019 02:18

All my labours have been contractions starting than water breaking later on, usually around 5cm. Except for my c-section (of course) and DD25 who was born en caul.

Mumblers · 19/01/2019 03:10

First labour - started with mild period like pain at 6.30am. I was young and just thought I had stomach ache (despite being 39 weeks). They got much stronger quickly & were every few minutes, went to hospital at 8am, thought it was going to be one of those baby born in the car scenarios. Turned out I wasn't even dilated and DD born at 8.53pm.

2nd labour (I was much older & wiser) same dull stomach ache at start at 8am but very thin pinkish water after wiping when I went to the loo so knew I was in labour. Was 2 hours later from start of stomach ache to the 'yep think I need to go to hospital now' feeling. Was ready to push at 2pm. Had DS at 5.48pm but that's a story for another thread!

BlessedbetheFruitLoops2 · 19/01/2019 03:20

1st labour = induction resulting in emcs

2nd labour = I’m currently wide awake with a really sore back after getting super emotional and teary before bed over nothing at 39+3... could be clutching at straws but hoping it’s a sign that something is going on!

Endofrelationship · 19/01/2019 05:09

Both times my waters went. Movie style Niagra gush! Contractions started a couple of hours later.

mrsed1987 · 19/01/2019 09:29

I lost my mucus plug last thursday then spent all day monday with irregular contractions. Waters went at 11.30pm and he was born 4.41am on tuesday morning.
