How to quell my anxiety?!

Hi All,

I am one day short of 8 weeks, and after some bleeding end of week 6 I had a vaginal scan last Thursday and all was fine - perfect size, heartbeat, etc. I was so relieved, and managed to keep myself calm for a few days, but now I am getting really anxious again that something is/will go wrong :(

My main concern is - I don't really have any pregnancy symptoms! The only thing is I'm slightly more tired and my nipples (but not breasts) can be quite sore, but otherwise nothing, and I don't 'feel' pregnant. I know that anxiety is bad for the baby but I don't know what to do to stop it and how on earth I'm going to make it to the 12 week scan!

Any advice on how to stop being so anxious, or any mums out there with healthy babies or later pregnancies who had almost no symptoms?

Thank you!

Honestly OP what you’re feeling is completely normal. I didn’t have any symptoms at all with my first - I just coasted through the whole pregnancy feeling amazing, until the later stages when a sore back kicked in.
As for the anxiety, I’m the biggest worrier in the world. I’m 22+5 with my second and my husband is constantly finding me lying on my left side because I’m worried about her moving. There’s always something to panic about. He tells me not to worry but to me it’s like telling the sun not to rise - it’s jyst what I do. Pregnancy is the most worrying, anxious time but it’s also the most amazing as you’re growing a tiny part of you and soon you’ll get to meet him/her. Just try and take a minute out, sit/lie down somewhere quiet and just breathe and try to give yourself a mental shake and tell yourself everything is totally fine. You’ll get through this!!

I had a terrible bleed at around the same time as you and we thought we'd lost our daughter. She was absolutely fine and is now a healthy toddler but I was riddled with anxiety about the pregnancy until the second I had her.

Just wanted to give you a bit of reassurance that these things can happen and everything turns out to be absolutely perfect. Try to enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can and look forward to holding your little bundle.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much girls! That has really helped! I've been getting so concerned as the general consensus seems to be that your first pregnancy will be riddled with symptoms...!

@AlwaysWantedToBeATenenbaum that sounds exactly like me!! So pleased to hear you've had a healthy first and almost halfway through your second pregnancy! It really is so weird to think I'm growing an actual person inside me!

@helpmesleep that really helps, thank you! I was scared as the blood was so red, but the scan showed all was well - have had a bit of brown spotting since, but nothing bad so don't know why I can't shake the feeling something is wrong!

Thanks so much for taking the time to reassure me, it really helps!! x

@imgoingonanadventure I am exactly the same. Had a bleed, early scan all fine now just paranoid waiting for 12 weeks! It’s driving me crazy! And because I haven’t told anyone yet (except husband) I have nobody to tell me to chill.

I’m telling myself that if all was ok at 6 weeks, there’s nothing I can do from this point but stay healthy.

Fingers crossed for both our scans!

@excitednerves glad to hear I'm not alone!! How far along are you? Are you abot 8 weeks too?? I haven't told anyone except my husband either and he's exactly the same, just keeps telling me to chill!!

Hopefully both our scans and pregnancies are absolutely perfect!

Hi @imgoingonanadventure, yes also 8 weeks. Fingers crossed for both of us. The waiting is so hard!

I had no symptoms throughout either of my pregnancies- have a 2YO and a 7 week old after a miscarriage (except a bad gag reflex to the toothbrush).
I found reading a daily app helped me - gave me a bit of control back. Loved reading about how big they were and how they had developed.

Thanks Hopeful!! I have been pinned to the Emma's Diary app!!

I loved "Pregnancy +" I think it's American but had great info on it regarding how the baby develops.

Ooh, thanks!! I'll give that a go!!
