Hello ladies. I'm 7weeks pregnant and a little worried. Food generally makes me feel sick, I have to force myself to eat. I don't vomit but after each meal I feel a huge ball in my stomach that I just can't digest for about 3 hours. I don't fancy anything at all (except perhaps apples and tangerines, and sparkling water ...). I haven't gained any weight whatsoever - I might actually have lost half a kilo. I'm concerned whether the baby is getting enough nutrients. Is this normal? Any comments appreciated. Thanks xx

I was the exact same and it hit me around 7 weeks. I actually continued to lose weight until my sickness stopped (around 15/16 weeks). I'm 17 weeks now and have only gained 2lbs although I have a bump. Midwife hasn't been concerned, try not to worry as baby will be taking what it needs from what you have!

I’m the same, I’ve lost weight since I got pregnant, 12 weeks now and have only regained about 2lbs of what I lost which was about 10lbs (I’m a bit overweight though so could afford to lose that). Had my 12 week scan on Tuesday and baby is fine.

I think it’s normal in early pregnancy, at 7 weeks baby is still feeding from the yolk as the placenta hasn’t fully formed yet so don’t worry. Maybe start taking vitamins like pregnacare if you can get them down, they’ll be good for you as well as baby down the line.

Hi both. Thanks, that's good to hear. Yes I'm already taking the vitamins. I couldn't swallow the pills but I take the liquid, tastes disgusting but what can you do? :-P

I can't help with sickness I'm afraid but I didn't have sickness and didn't gain weight until week 16 or so. Different women carry and grow differently.

Nothisispatrick · 17/01/2019 11:33

It’s perfectly normal, there’s no need to have gained weight at 7 weeks pregnant.

Nothisispatrick · 17/01/2019 11:36

That maybe came across a bit snappy, sorry! I remember the first trimester it was hell, I only ate carbs. I remember eating yogurt and it got stuck in my throat and just would not go down, I ended up regurgitating it over a sofa cushion. It’s grim.

You don’t actually need to increase calories until the third trimester I believe, and baby is way too tiny to add any weight. Many many women feel like this in the first trimester and they’re babies are all fine.

My first trimester was horrendous for sickness and I lost weight in the end. I'm now 18 weeks and eating like a horse - with a huge bump!! Trying to restraint how much I want to eat but baby gets all kicky whenever I'm near pastry and it's just too cute...(my excuse)

People have been very shocked when I've told them I'm only 4 and a half months in.

Just try and get whatever is comfortable down you and ignore the stick you will, no doubt, get. All I could eat during 1st trimester was cheese and belvita bakes. I got so many comments about not eating healthy or eating cheese at 10am - just shut off to it. Better to eat something than force stuff down you you don't want and then be sick.

Yes it's normal and baby will be fine. I lost a stone and have only gained 7lbs in total and I'm 37 weeks.

Thank you guys! The problem is, I'm borderline underweight according to the NHS BMI calculator, I have a BMI of 18.2. Pffffff ...Confused. Anyone else in that situation?

@Sandrine my pre-pg BMI was 19.4 so also borderline, I didnt watch my weight too closely but I must have lost some in the early days. Ive now put on about 4lbs at week 18, midwives arent concerned and babies (im carrying twins) are bigger than Id expect based on my dates. Your appetite should return in a few weeks. if the sickness gets unbearable you can ask for meds. if you lose more than 10% of your pre-pg weight then talk to mw or just if youre concerned about it.
