Leg cramps and back pain! Ouch

To start with I should inform you I have had surgery on my L5 and the sciatic nerve was damaged but they said after 6 months (which was last year) it should be fine and I was okay to have kids.
Switch to now, I'm 24 weeks and I just sprung out of bed AGAIN this morning with the worst cramp in my calf muscle and it's not the first time. I've also got this horrible pain that increases during the day near my bra strap and my bottom back is killing me.
More of a moan this post but I rang the docs to book an appointment to see if I could get some physio and the receptionist was so rude she didn't care that I was in pain. So has anyone been to physio for back pain whilst pregnant? I don't mind paying for treatment so if anyone went private please let me know :) I don't think I can go another 16 weeks with this (that's if the baby comes on time!!)

You might be better to talk to your MW about it, they might be able to refer you. You have my sympathies though, Sciatica is horrid! so so so horrid. Labour with DS has left with it, currently have a spout of it playing up atm.

As for cramp. I got that all the time from the 2nd trimester onwards, but during the night. Try drinking more water to keep hydrated and be careful when you get out of bed - your muscles are gonna be more susceptible to getting cramps after relaxing now due to increase hormones.

Are you taking pregnancy supplements as calcium and magnesium deficiency can contribute to cramps.

As for the back pain, urgh that is just part of bloomin pregnancy but again see if your MW can suggest anything to help, she might suggest a change of posture or some simple exercises

Thanks for the reply! I am indeed taking supplements, as much as the pregnacare ones allow me to take! with water it's all I do, If I don't have a bottle of water in my hands there is something wrong haha. My hubby has called the toilet my best friend during this pregnancy!!

I think I will speak with them and see, I didn't want to bother them too much with that in case it wasn't their place and more a GP thing but if they can get me referred it might be easier. x

It is certainly more a MW thing if it is worsening during pregnancy. MWs can refer to physio, mine did!

Just remember that your muscles are so much looser now due to all the relaxin and other hormones so no more springing out of bed maybe.

Good luck x
