When should I test?

Hello.

My partner and I have been TTC for a couple of months now. I was due on my period on 11 Jan (I usually have a 25 day cycle) and it’s now 14 Jan and I’ve still not had any bleeding.

I know I’m not technically classed as being ‘late’ but I’ve done numerous tests and they’ve all come back negative. My boobs have been very swollen and sore, and I’ve had some stomach cramps over the past 2 weeks. I’ve also had quite bad indigestion as well. One more thing I’ve noticed, I have a lot of hair, very long and very thick. Usually, when I wash my hair, a lot of it comes out (this has been the same for as long as I can remember) but the past couple of times I’ve washed my hair there’s been hardly any fall out.

Anyway, I guess my question is whether I’m trying to test too early? TIA x

If you were due on four days ago, then you are late. I tested on day 1 of missed period and it was positive. However, there is a lot of different advice about hcg levels etc. Use a first response (pink) test as they are most accurate. Good luck x

Thank you letsdothis123. I took a Tesco year this morning and there’s a faint positive line.. fingers crossed! X

Phew! Grin

I've booked an appointment at the GP's though now so hopefully they will be able to confirm for sure! Smile

Hi Sarah that test looks super positive! I had a fainter one than that when I was pregnant!

You might find the GP does nothing to confirm your pregnancy. They'll take your word for it if you've done a home test. They'll just tell you to take your vitamins and discuss what foods to avoid. They'll refer you to a midwife who you'll see at around 8w (apologies if you already know this, but I didn't. I learnt it from Mumsnet and from experience! I was certain my dr would take bloods or at least do another urine test. Nope!)

Congrats x x x

Gobletoffire · 16/01/2019 14:22

That’s certainly a positive! Congrats. As PP has said your GP would probably just take your word for it and an appointment isn’t required to confirm your pregnancy. That said, I did have an appointment but that’s because I was on all sorts of medication and I wanted to discuss what I could continue to take and what I needed to stop, so it can be useful for things like that. X

Sarah2809 · 16/01/2019 14:51

I rang the GP yesterday and they've booked me in with the midwife at my local GP's on Monday.. If the online due date calculators are anything to go by then i'm approx 4 weeks pregnant at the moment! So not sure what will happen on Monday, but we will see! Smile

Thanks all Grin xx
