Really sore throat

My throat is really sore since last Saturday, I don't know if it's the flu, I had a mild cold and fever which is gone now but my throat (tonsils?) is still sore, inflamed and swollen. It hurts to swallow. I was taking paracetamol but the symptoms still seem to persist. I've been trying to get a gp appointment but couldn't get one Sad. Do you think they'll prescribe me antibiotics?

I'm 13 weeks. Are antibiotics safe in pregnancy? I thought I could treat it with paracetamol but I'm sick and tired of this pain. I'm scared it will affect my baby tooSad

Any advice would be appreciated

I've not had it but I've had antibiotics in pregnancy due to a severe UTI which got me admitted to hospital.
Certain antibiotics are fine and they wouldn't prescribe you anything that would harm the baby.
It's best to treat the infection rather than leave it and be run down and ill for weeks. I hope you manage to see your GP soon.

Yes antibiotics are safe, I was on a course over Christmas. Paracetamol is fine too as long as you stick to the dosage guidelines. I found vicks great at night to help me breathe. I still have a bit of a cough and really wish I could take a cough bottle! Feel better xx

Thanks ladies, managed to see a gp in a walk in centre this afternoon. The gp said it looks like a viral infection and don't need antibiotics. It's not tonsillitis either, it's enlarged but not inflamed, apparently she doesn't prescribe antibiotics until it's filled with pus 🤢(sorry for that word). Should clear up in an another weekSad
