Twins at 6 weeks

I went for an early scan last week and they seen 2 egg sacs one measured 6 weeks 2 days and had (I think) a yolk sac and the other was an empty sac measuring 1.5mm which could only be seen through the internal scan.

My question is at 6 weeks 2 days would this be normal or do we think that the 2nd sac is going to stay empty? Could the 2nd one just be a slow grower?

I thought I was about 8 weeks not 6+2 So that was a surprise

Sorry if I've worded it badly, I'm just still in shock after seeing 2 sacs

Any advice or own experience would be appreciated thank youFlowers

Hi OP

I can only speak from my own experience (currently 16 +4 with twins), but my first scan was done at 5+6 due to a complication, and both sacs were seen to have embryos with heart beats at that time, although one measured 2 days ahead of the other and still does. I'm sorry if this isn't the answer you wanted but that's just my experience and there may be others along soon who will have a more positive story for you.

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP 😊

Hi OP,

I had a similar experience with an early scan at around 7 weeks.

2 sacs, one measured 6weeks and one was empty.

They said to wait till the 12 week scan to see what would happen but that it was likely I had produced two eggs during ovulation and only one had fertilized.

I held out hope for the other to grow but in my case it did not and at 12 weeks only one sack could be seen.

I mourn what could have been as I would have loved twins but I now have a super happy and cuddly 4 year old and I count my
blessings. Might sound strange but he is a super cuddly guys, loved being close to me (or anyone really) and I always think he would have made a brilliant twin.

Good luck, hope all goes well for you.
