Hi all,

Has anyone been tested for gestational diabetes? I've got my test in the morning and a friend who had it recently said she was extremely poorly afterwards, just wondering if that's a common thing? Thanks

I had it twice and was fine after both times

Yep had mine few weeks ago was fine just a juice you drink and bloods before and after oh a finger prick to check your levels before bloods are taken. Nothing major Grin

Hi - I’ve had it twice in this pregnancy. It’s a pretty crap way to spend a morning... you can’t eat from 10pm night before, on the morning you can have a small amount of water but that’s it. When you arrive they take a blood sample, then give you a sugary drink - mine was like a concentrated squash. It’s pretty grim but I found it fine really. Then you wait and hour, give blood again. Wait and hour and give blood again.

I would take a snack for straight after, as in eat it when you are walking out the hospital. I had a banana and some nuts.

I had a bit of a headache all day after on both occasions, I drink a lot of water so I think this was dehydration for me.

It’s a rubbish morning but honestly not too bad....

Good luck!

I had mine a few weeks ago. Felt awful after it but I'm 99% certain it was because I ate too much too quickly after it was over. I'd go with what a PP said and take something like a banana to eat after before gorging on hospital canteen food like I did!

I had one last pregnancy and have had 3 so far this time (16 weeks). Later ones and 6 week one were fine but the 11 week one when I was already struggling with nausea was difficult.

I felt a bit sick towards the end but that was due to hunger. Once it was over and I had something to eat and drink I felt fine.

I found it okay, and I usually feel nauseous when hungry and faint when having blood taken! I did set an alarm though so I could have a bowl of cereal the night before at the last possible moment haha- and just had a small snack straight afterwards, and a proper lunch when home around half an hour after the second lot of blood was taken. The boredom in the middle is the worst part, so take a book/magazine if you can!

I was very sick juat as they took my 2nd bloods but i was sick quite a lot anyway and also don't like fizzy drinks and had to drink lucozade which was a real struggle for me!!
