Sorry tmi, but it feels like I've got really bad lower back ache stretching into my bum, really sore. I also keep getting quick shooting pains sort of like spasms in my vagina. I googled it and saw a lot of stuff about miscarriage and now I'm petrified. Are these just normal aches/pains or are they a bad sign?

It might be sciatica, that causes lower back pain and shooting pains and is quite normal in pregnancy, especially early pregnancy.

I was going to say Sciatica too. Your body is changing a lot right now to accommodate for the growing baby and your body prepares for labour months in advance also. It's can be more painful for some than others so I would try not to think the worst at this point and mention it to your midwife. I've been really surprised at how much just being pregnant can hurt!
