Temperature of 38.3 - 33 weeks pregnant cause for concern?

The Tommy’s website says anything above 37.5 should be seen to. I have a stinking cold and shivering. Just taken 2 paracetomal. My Braun thermometer didn’t even go red (it’s colour coded).
Ringing the maternity triage but I can’t get through.

Baby is moving!
Any other advice?

I’d be seen as that temperature is high.
Maybe ring 111 or if you feel you need to go to urgent care or a and e. They might just send you home but always best to get checked xx

RogueV · 07/01/2019 17:50

Managed to get through to maternity triage and was advised to also ring 111.

Yeah I thought so, your symptoms might not be linked to your pregnancy but can be serious if not treated. Hope 111 help!

Blastandtroph · 07/01/2019 18:01

Midwife here.

I'd be asking you in to check all your observations and do a CTG trace on baby as this could be sepsis. Call back Triage if they've not already invited you in.

RogueV · 07/01/2019 18:07

Oh gosh sepsis really?
I am weeing normally.
I am eating ok.

Not necessarily but you need seeing. Where I work we would take bloods, cultures and swabs for temperature above 38.1 and start you on IV antibiotics as a precaution. It may just be a cold/virus after all but I think you should get checked out.

Just an update

I went to the urgent treatment centre, I was told I had tachycardia and was subsequently sent to maternity triage.

My fever went up to 38.7. Have had loads of swabs/bloods. I am hooked up to IV antibiotics, paracetomal and fluids.

Baby’s heart rate was also fast (up to 200) but it has now come down and settled.

So glad I came in I seemed to deteriorate quite quickly! They are keeping me in and I’m not sure I will be going home tomorrow.

Thanks to you all for the advice.

Thanks for the update and glad they're taking good care of you. Hope it all goes smoothly from here.

I have been diagnosed with Influenza A!
I have never had the flu - trust me to get it when pregnant.
They have started me on Tamiflu as DS was premature (32 weeker) and I have had a stillbirth prior to that.

Can I just say again how invaluable your replies were yesterday. I really wasn’t even going to bother phoning maternity triage or 111.

This forum does have its uses!! Smile

So glad you got seen and sorted pronto! Make the most of the bedrest!,

orangestarburst · 08/01/2019 21:47

I also had Influenza A @ 27weeks pregnant there in November and was admitted to hospital too - it is absolutely horrible! Make sure you take plenty of time to rest I didn’t feel normal till around 4 weeks after (also had the course of Tamiflu and amoxicillin as started with a chest infection too) this was all after I had the flu jag too! Hope you feel better soon!

Lbwestf123 · 08/01/2019 21:56

Glad you’ve been seen and treated. 😀😇

RogueV · 09/01/2019 05:37

Oh orangestarburst that sounds awful.
I do feel awful - hope i recover quicker than 4 weeks. I have so much to be getting on with at home and the thought of giving birth feeling like this (will be induced early) is just too much to even contemplate!

Very quick diagnosis

user1471426142 · 09/01/2019 18:55

Sorry to hijack the thread but I’m feeling really grotty and have a mild fever of 38.3. I rang triage after reading this thread but they weren’t really that bothered and thought it would just be a cold. However, because I’ve had pain when coughing in my chest and feeling a bit breathless to call the gp in the morning if the pain hasn’t gone. Should I be pushing to see the GP in the morning? I feel a bit silly calling in if it’s just for a cold.

Littlebelina · 09/01/2019 18:58

I would see the GP user (assuming you are pregnant?) and phone 111 if you feel worse overnight. Better not to take chancex

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 09/01/2019 18:59

Who did you call user? As 111 usually want you to be seen if you have chest pain with a cough especially in pregnancy due to DVT risk

RogueV · 09/01/2019 19:49

user1471426142

I initially phoned the maternity triage who like yourselves thought it was more of a go to your GP issue and because it was out of hours told me phone 111. I was then given an appointment time that evening at my local urgent care who assessed me and referred me on to the maternity unit (it’s at the same hospital).

I would 100% get seen. I was a bit meh about the fever but I seemed to deteriorate quite quickly that evening.

Thank you- I’ll call the doctor in the morning or 111 tonight if I feel worse.

Roguev I hope you’re starting to feel better. Must have been quite a shock to have got so poorly so quickly.

user1471426142 · 10/01/2019 14:39

Just in case this is helpful to anyone else- the GP wanted to see me so it is always worth being checked out. I’ve got a chest infection and slight tachycardia but lungs sound clear enough to not need follow-up and fever was back down.

The message from this is it really is worth getting checked out as you don’t know if it could be serious or not and even though mine isn’t, the GP wanted to check.

RogueV · 11/01/2019 18:18

Hi user1471426142

Glad you got seen to and 100% agree with the message that always get checked out ladies
