Advice needed please. My early scan today at the EPU has added to my existing worry about this pregnancy.

I had an early miscarriage at 4/5 weeks in October, spotting from 17th October and passed a clot on 22nd October.

I had a very light period/spotting 16/17/18th November. Partner and I had sex on the 28th November.

Positive pregnancy test on 10th December.

From my LMP dates I thought I was 7 weeks 3 days today.

I visited the EPU this morning due to left side stabbing pain, back ache and shoulder pain over the past 3 days. I had an internal scan and thankfully the pregnancy is viable. Fetal pole measures 3.1 mm and a heart beat was seen. Sonographer has dated me as 5-6 weeks.

I'm a little worried as the scan date is 2 weeks or so from where I thought I would be.

Any advice much appreciated.

Sorry for your previous loss. Were you tracking ovulation?
From about 5 days before to 24 hours after the time that you ovulate, conception can take place then it takes an estimated 7-14 days from the date that you had sex for implantation to take place so this could be throwing your dates off? Fingers crossed for you.

Ducksandacorns · 07/01/2019 13:19

Thanks for the advice, here's hoping that's the reason!

From my experience early scans always put you behind but you catch up with lmp/ovulation dates at your 12 week scan. I had early scans with both of my pregnancies and was always dated 7-10 behind what I should be and ended up being 13+ weeks at my dating scans.

Just for some re assurance at what i thought was my 12 week scan based on LMP I was actually only barely 10 weeks. I really panicked but all was fine. I had to return for a scan 2 weeks later and was bang on 12 weeks. 21 weeks now and all is perfect. My af I thought was very accurate but obviously just took longer for implation to happen.

Michelle0507 · 07/01/2019 17:24

I measured 3.1mm at 6w with a HB and all was well - my dates were spot on though. I'd feel a little reassured but I know exactly how you feel.

Justus22 · 07/01/2019 18:53

I had a scan at 9 Weeks and they told me I was 7w4d and then I went back for my dating scan and gave me the exact dates I'd initially expected working from my last period and also the date I got a positive test. Wait and see what they say then but also to say I expressed concern and they told me it will just be that I ovulated later than month. X

Thanks everyone, you've put my mind at ease! Just going to take positive from the fact that there is a heartbeat and all seemed well.

Just wanted to update the thread as I know I spent hours on threads when I was worried and knowing an outcome, be it positive or not, was useful.

Unfortunately it was not a positive ending for us. After the first scan (heartbeat seen but pregnancy measuring 2 weeks behind) I went back for another two weeks later. The pregnancy had grown slightly however no heartbeat on this scan and I went on to have surgical management. Was an awful time but we got through it. I took time for my body and mind to heal and we continued to TTC. I am now 6+2, feeling anxious everyday but strong and taking everything one step at a time.

I had a similar experience @ducksandacorns, it's an awful thing to go through. I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

Congratulations on your pregnancy :) taking each day as it comes is good. Today you are pregnant :) we're ttc again and really hoping to conceive again soon, thanks for coming back to update, it gives me hope.

kwhitts · 11/05/2019 13:19

Sorry for your loss ducksandacorns, I hope everything goes smoothly this time. I had 2 losses before my DD, then an ectopic and another loss in December. I'm pregnant again and having weekly scans but they haven't yet been able to confirm this one is viable. It's hard. Are you having an early scan this time?

ducksandacorns · 12/05/2019 13:18

@moomin11 Thanks, so sorry to hear about your losses. I really hope your new pregnancy progresses well, when is your next scan? I'm having my first tomorrow, so anxious.

Thank you @ducksandacorns .. fingers crossed for you for tomorrow. Let us know how you get on x

moomin11 · 12/05/2019 20:43

Hope the scans go well ducksandacorns and kwhitts. Mine isn't until Thursday so am just trying to take each day as it comes x

kwhitts · 13/05/2019 08:26

@moomin11 I know mine isn't until Saturday 😫.. I was starting to feel a lot more positive at the weekend especially with keep being sick but then somebody told me yesterday that if I'm sure of my dates it's a bad outcome so now I'm feeling deflated again.. it's going to be a long week!

moomin11 · 13/05/2019 08:57

kwhitts it's hard isn't it, I've read so many posts where people say their dates were out and everything was ok but also it is often the first sign there is something wrong. It seems like it can go either way. The waiting is so horrible. I'm not sure on my dates, I know when my LMP was but we weren't really trying as my last loss hit me really hard. My last cycle was also 40 days and they calculate everything on 28 days so I don't know if I'm just earlier than how they work it out or if it's not viable. I hope this week goes quickly for us both!

ducksandacorns · 13/05/2019 09:33

@moomin11 @kwhitts

My scan is at 11. I'm beyond anxious.

Like you both I read everything when I was going through this in January. Had lots of reassurance but I think I knew deep down it wasn't going to be good news at scan number two.

Will update later.

Wishing you well for your scan today @ducksandacorns 🤞 💜

Sorry you're both going through this @moomin11 @kwhitts, sending love, its awful being in limbo xx

moomin11 · 13/05/2019 11:09

Good luck ducksandacorns xx

ducksandacorns · 13/05/2019 12:06

Thank you so much everyone

Scan went well, live pregnancy, yolk sac and heart beat seen.

Measuring slightly out at 6+ weeks (I'm 6+4 today) but the sonographer seemed happy.

Scan is showing a probable haemorrhagic cyst so that's likely been my cause of pain and spotting.

VenusStarr · 13/05/2019 12:09

That's brilliant news @ducksandacorns. Will you have any more scans now, or just the 12 week one?

What a relief for you :)

kwhitts · 13/05/2019 13:24

So glad that everything went well for you today @ducksandacorns x

moomin11 · 13/05/2019 20:28

Wonderful news ducksandacorns you just be so pleased Smile xx

ducksandacorns · 14/05/2019 06:25

Thank you! Yes I was so relieved, although having a slight worry that I was dated 4 days out. But nothing like the 2 weeks out in January so I'm trying not to over analyse!
