Can’t sleep :(

I’m 30 weeks pregnant in a couple of days and for the last two weeks or so I’ve been finding it difficult to drop off to sleep. I feel exhausted in the day but then by bedtime I feel wide awake. I’ve tried a warm bath before bed, cup of warm milk, reading, but I struggle to drift off. I work full time and don’t finish until I’m 36+2 and I just feel exhausted, last night I was still awake at 2am then when I finally do start to drift off I end up needing a wee or baby starts having a party in there! (Which I don’t mind so much, I love to feel him).
Does anyone have any tips or advice? Anyone in the same boat? I feel like I desperately need sleep but I can’t. Is this just typical pregnancy insomnia that some get towards the end? I’d had no trouble sleeping at all up until recently. X

Nothing helpful to add as I am watching with interest but you are not alone! I can’t remember the last time I had a good nights sleep.

Flowers for you

Same here heading into 30 weeks I’ve had challenges with sleeping last couple of weeks. However I’m just going with it now! Not sure if you practise Yoga but that may help before bed time as it’s linked to breathing, you could try some oils on your pillow to help & also herbal teas. Body pillow too If you don’t already have one. I wake up at daft o clock and have just resorted to getting out of bed and doing something for a while until I’m tired and then going back to bed. Maybe bring your maternity leave forward if it’s exhausting as being tired won’t help during labour. I’m trying to catch up on sleep whenever I can even it seems lazy haha.

Sympathy! Flowers

I've had pregnancy insomnia from around 9 weeks and it's bloody awful.

When I am lying in bed, unable to sleep, I listen to audio books on low volume, or to guided hypnobirthing relaxation meditation - I'm much more likely to fall asleep that way.

I hope you can get some relief somehow!

More sympathy from over here!

Ive had pregnancy insomnia since around 22 weeks (32 now) although my issue is more with staying asleep!

Do you have a pregnancy pillow? I thought I didnt need one as I wasn’t necessarily uncomfortable but it did help a lot! x

Lots of sympathy from me! 40+3 here and I haven’t had a good nights sleep since about my first trimester when I slept all the time 😭
The best sleep I get manage is a few hours early evening so sometimes I go to bed at 7pm and sleep well til 11/12ish then just get up again and sort of nap throughout the night. Not ideal but desperation has set in now x

Id love ideas too. Im 37 weeks today and struggled for the last 3 days or so. Guess im being prepared for those nightfeeds!

I'm the same with sleep issues, 28 weeks! For a while it was because I was getting sore hips from always lying on my side, so I bought a mattress topper and that's helped with the discomfort. Like a PP I can fall asleep no problem but usually wake after 4 hours and toss and turn the rest of the night!

Don't have much advice, just wanted to say you aren't alone lol

Having the same issue - hypnobirthing - mindfulness and hypnosis tracks help me nod off early at night but in the morning I find it's actually hunger waking me so if I get up and eat I can sometimes doze off again after. It's rough. I'd love to be banking sleep for labour and newborn Thanks

I've had difficulty sleeping for most of this pregnancy. Currently 24 weeks and signed off work with bad rib pain so that's stopping me from sleeping more than a couple hours a night. Dreading going back to work after this week!

Pregnancy pillow definitely helps in getting comfy and I tend to sleep better if I've kept busy all day. Not that I can at the moment because the pain is too bad.
Lack of sleep is the worst, sorry OP Thanks

mrsed1987 · 07/01/2019 09:30

Well i feel lucky that ive only just started to struggle! Lol

Ijustwanttofeelbeautiful · 07/01/2019 09:44

I’m struggling too, 24 weeks here. I just feel so drained Sad

Gobletoffire · 07/01/2019 09:58

Ah thanks all - it’s comforting knowing I’m not alone! Hopefully I might just be having a bad couple of weeks and it improves, might be wishing thinking though! We’ve got a busy few weeks ahead at work so I think I’m getting myself worked up about everything and how I’m going to manage. It’s just more of a struggle when I feel so tired and heavy. I’d like to be banking a few hours in preparation for baby arriving but I don’t think my body wants to do that Grinx
