Fluid on baby’s brain 33 weeks

I have been in for a check up scan today as my placenta had shown as previously being low (previa), this all showed as fine today. However, the sono has indicated there may be fluid on my baby’s brain to the cavum septum and referred me to a specialist on Tuesday. So far I have had no problems, my 20 week scan showed up as normal, I have also had x2 4d scans, most recently at 25 weeks and the sono was very thorough (it was actually her who noted the possible previa placenta). During today’s scan the sono said baby was very low in my pelvis and was having trouble seeing her brain properly. Is it possible she has just referred me as a safety precaution? I have been hysterical all day and the panic has taken over, I know it’s only a few days until I see the specialist but I wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation and could give any reassurance? Thanks x

Just wanted to reply for a hand hold. My ds2 had two cysts on his brain and a bright spot on his heart at 22 weeks. We had further tests and were told it could be an indicator of other problems. However he was born with no issues at 37 weeks and is now a healthy 10 year old.
It's awful waiting for news. I shut myself away between tests and didn't want to talk to anyone and cried a lot.
Be kind to yourself and sending you positive thoughts.

Hey just to say my nephew was born with scans showing potential issues near his kidney / liver however he’s totally fine and healthy too as OP son is :) Good luck with the appointment and sending you good vibes

Thanks snoopy18, baby is so active as well which I’m hoping is a good indicator of brain development. Glad to hear all was well with your nephew! Such a worry and can’t help but expect the worst! X

Emmalou2601 · 06/01/2019 11:19

Thanks all x scan is booked today 2:35. It’s a babybond growth and development scan Iv booked privately. Hoping a second opinion will give me more information before my specialist appt on Tuesday. Fingers crossed! X

It sounds like almost certainly an excellent example of extra information = unhelpful information. I hope it all blows over soon.

Quick update: had the growth and development scan today, OB confirmed there is slight level of fluid, but not drastic or enough to cause concern, specialist will measure this and decide whether it needs to be monitored. Baby is nice and big weighing at 5lb 5, good movements and responding well. Feeling a lot more relieved following today’s report, and feeling a lot more optimistic for Tuesdays appt! X

Really pleased the scan went well and you’re able to feel relieved ahead of your appt next week. That’s a good weight- baby is growing well! Smile
