NCT Classes

Our NCT Classes start tonight and for some reason I'm really nervous about them - everyone keeps saying you make great friends etc and now I feel this real pressure to like everyone who will be there tonight!! Feels like first day of school or something!

You'll be fine I promise! Of course it is going to feel a bit awkward at first, but you all have such a big thing in common that before too long you will feel you have known each other forever. I still see all my group a year on - of course there are some of them that possibly if I was being honest, aren't exactly who I would normally think would be my type of friend, but it is amazing the bond you build over having children. I would say go with an open mind, try not to judge everyone straight away (the girl I originally though uh-oh no way will we get on is now one of my closest friends) and remember that everyone is just as nervous as you. At ultimately if you don't get on with any of them, then at least you will learn about giving birth...which is meant to be the point of the classes anyway!

We are nearing the end of our classes and we have loved them! We are fortunate to have got a really good group of like minded people and a good teacher. Since we started the women have met each week for a coffee outside of the classes and the men even went to the pub for some male bonding!

You will be nervous but so will everyone else but at least you all have something in common straight away! plus you have paid for the course and made the commitment to learning about your new arrival so hopefully you will get as much out of it as we have and as I am sure loads of other people have too.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I never really clicked with the other people at our NCT classes, but it was good to have people to talk to and a reason to get out of the house. If you're lucky, you will find like-minded people and have a new social circle. If not, just take it for what it is - a support network for when you are at home alone all day with a baby!
