Just a random thought on stretch marks?

When I had my first child (10 years ago) the pregnancy gave me horrific stretch marks, not that I was worried, I've never had a perfect body and clearly never will Grin but I have noticed I'm now 25 weeks with my second pregnancy and despite having a big bump already I haven't noticed any new stretchmarks. I know there is plenty of time to go but I was thinking maybe I could escape too many more this time around! Has anyone else found they had less in a second pregnancy? Or had the opposite?

I didn’t get any with my first, got loads with my second (although not until 39 weeks!) and now 41 weeks with my third and don’t have any new ones.

TickleMeEmo · 04/01/2019 13:22

None with my first until they suddenly appeared a couple of days before I went into labour at 39+6.
28 weeks with DC2 and much bigger bump but no fresh marks but after how late they appeared last time I’m not holding my breath 😂

I gained a whole belly full of horrific stretch marks in my first pregnancy. I’m now on my fourth and none of the subsequent pregnancies have left me with any more, and they never went red and angry again, they’re still there obviously but still silvery. I figure there’s no more room for any new ones to develop, I was pretty well covered the first time round.

Isn’t it mostly pot luck / genetics ?

SoyDora · 04/01/2019 14:10

Yeah it’s supposed to be genetics but I’m not sure how that explains getting them in 1 out of 3 pregnancies!
They’re just one of those things that sometimes happen and sometimes don’t.

I got loads with my son but 35+5 with my second now and haven't got any new ones (that I can see)? X

EverythingNow · 04/01/2019 15:19

I got loads with dd1, I gained 4stone and I got them.right at the end -gutted!

Dd2 and 3 I never got any more (as if there was room for more) because even though I was heavier when I conceived I gained a stone with each and wasn't as heavy as I was full term with dd1.

With this one I was as heavy at conception as I was full term with dd1 therefore I'll probably get stretch marks on my stretch marks!

36+3 and just noticed today i have a few. They have all appeared in the last two weeks. Already had stretchmarks from weight gain / loss before being pregnant.

rebelrosie12 · 04/01/2019 15:24

I got loads from my babies but wasn't til 41 weeks.

Spooples · 04/01/2019 16:37

I'm 29+3 with my first and am COVERED in the fuckers. Started off as a pretty standard size 10 and they now completely cover my lower belly, hips, thighs, and (bizarrely) right boob. Dread to think what I'll be like at full term. I'm sure it's down to bad genetics sadly :(

coffeekittens · 04/01/2019 16:45

I didn’t get any until 34 weeks with DD(6) but was covered over night, I’m 33 weeks now and have no new stretch marks, occasionally my old ones go a bit red and sore. Hoping that I don’t get any new ones as I found them itchy and sore when pregnant and after having DD.

coffeekittens · 04/01/2019 16:47

@Spooples, it is genetics, my mum has them and so does my dad (from weight gain and growth spurts, not pregnancy 😂) so I wasn’t surprised when mine appeared. They do fade with time (and sun helped mine).

I think your skin changes. I got horrible stretch marks during puberty. Breasts, thighs, hips. Like awful. Literally not a single one in each of my 3 pregnancies. Admittedly My bumps were smaller than average (small, early babies with low fluid). But even so the expansion was more rapid and more significant than during puberty.
