Help! I’m 40+1 today. It really feels like I need to go but I can’t. I’ve been eating dried prunes, drinking water and taking a stool softener. I think my last bowel movement was yesterday or day before but I’m just so uncomfortable now. It feels like there’s a lot of pressure in my bum. Any advice?

Knees at least level with hips (ie legs straight out in front of you - I can just about use my sink to balance them) when you’re on the throne - or google squashy potty and see if you can get something bring knees up high) both positions straighten colon so you are working with gravity. Warning bath if you can ( maybe get someone to help you in and out) to relax the muscles and maybe loosen any ‘dry ends’ iyswim Blush. I find dried figs better than prunes. I would say lactulose but not in top of the softener you’ve already had.

You can buy lactulose from the pharmacy - life saver for me!

I second lactose!

Any chance this is labour ? Not poo?

whiteonesugar · 02/01/2019 22:23

Just saying - but I thought I needed a poo when I was 40+4 but it was DS!!

Thanks! The stool softener was recommended by my dr so I’ll just check before switching to lactulose.

Think I just lost my mucus plug so might be close to labour.

My midwife recommended lactose as it is fairly mild and available without prescription. I have taken it a few times during pregnancy but you could be starting labour! Exciting stuff!
