Congratulations!!! Don’t worry you’re not the first and you won’t be the last! Call your local hospital maternity unit, they will be able to book you in for your first scan and answer any questions/concerns! Alternatively you can have a private early scan but unsure of costs! X

FlorenceAndFed · 02/01/2019 11:14

Hiya.

I'm sure your baby will be fine. Lots of women still drink before they realise they are pregnant.

Most important thing is to start looking after yourself now.

Are you taking folic acid or pregnancare supplement?

hannahbellaa · 03/01/2019 11:53

No, stuff you did before you knew you were pregnant will not affect your baby (in days gone by many mothers smoked and drank moderately with no ill effect on baby. Not advocating it but that is a fact).

You and baby will be fine. Congratulations! [flowers).

Hope you enjoy your pregnancy and all goes well. Keep us informed!
{flowers] but no Wine for now. A really exciting time.

Springmummy19 · 03/01/2019 12:08

@hannahbellaa aww bless you, don't worry. I'm sure your baby is fine, i was a smoker before i found out and the months leading to getting pregnant I was smoking a lot more. The day before I took my test I had a car accident. I was so so worried, they let me have an early pregnancy scan just to check and baby was fine. I'm 24+ 4 now. The doctors assured me that the baby is very well protected in there and as much as smoking/drinking can affect your baby, you cant beat yourself up about it if you didn't know. Just try your best to cut it all out now

You can take any folic acid tablets, they say pregnecare is the best but I take Seven Seas Pregnancy - 28 tablets. it's much cheaper nad has the same vitamins baby needs as the pregencare ones.

Naturally it can all seem very over whelming but try not to stress and just stay calm, everything will work out well. Smile

Springmummy19 · 03/01/2019 12:11

@hannahbellaa I would go straight to A&E if you are worried, that is what I did and then once they tell you all is okay, just call your GP and make an appointment with your midwife, you can also do this online if your GP has the option do an online referral form.

IamPickleRick · 03/01/2019 12:13

Congratulations! I was exactly where you are in 2016! I was 10 weeks gone and had no idea, found out on Boxing Day. I had done everything wrong and overindulged at Xmas (only a few glasses of baileys and some pate but I felt awful). Honestly don’t worry, get an appt at your doctors now, tell them the situation as they like to book you before 10 weeks. They’ll send you to an early pregnancy unit to date the pregnancy. Depending on what stage you are at they will direct you from there.

Get on all the pregnacare supplements you can x

IamPickleRick · 03/01/2019 12:15

Please don’t go to a&e, you’ll wait for hours for something your nurse practitioner at your GP can tell you, plus you will plug up waiting times for others. Call the triage nurse at your GP and she will sort you right out x

Jackshouse · 03/01/2019 12:16

You definitely DONT need to go to A and E.

DD was concieved on an all inclusive holiday and is fine.

Take prenatal vitamins. Look at the NHS info about what to eat and what not to eat. Ring your GP and ask the receptionist for the next step. In lots of areas you ring the midwife yourself.

It sounds like the pregnancy was not planned. It is perfectly fine it you don’t want to continue with the pregnancy, in which case make a GP appointment.

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 12:20

Did you know that implantation takes between 6-8 days? So before the point the foetus is just kinda swimming about and not getting any nourishment from your body anyway, so you can totally disregard any partying then. I woupd imaging the risk at that point is miscarriage but you're past that point so it's academic.

Many of us WERE out drinking and smoking before we found out we were pregnant and our DC show no signs of harm. Of course once you know you shouldn't take the risk but chances are your baby is absolutely fine.

hannahbellaa · 03/01/2019 12:21

thanks so much for all your replys! ill be on here panicking all the way threw.. no it wasnt planned i was on the pill and i was very carefull at not missing any tablets.. clearly not careful enough! is it true that i cant have a scan till 10 weeks as there is nothing too see.. oh i wont be going too a&e i was in there 11hours last time!

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 12:22

Do you want to talk about the relationship stuff? Why is it "not the best" right now?

IamPickleRick · 03/01/2019 12:24

No that’s not true. The early pregnancy unit will do an internal scan to date the pregnancy but you need to call the GP. A&E will not get you this scan any quicker, they will just refer you too.

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 12:25

The scan will be 12 weeks, but you're kinda right it would be 10 weeks as weeks pregnant are counted from your last period not the actual day you conceived, which is weird as it means if you ovulate half way through a 4 week cycle and get pregnant it means you're officially 2 weeks pregnant when you've been pregnant for a matter of minutes! But, that's just how it's done.

How pregnant do you think you are? (Do you remember when your last period was?)

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 12:26

Visiting the early pregnancy unit isn't standard though is it? Certainly not in either of the hospitals I gave birth in. My first scan was 12 weeks.

IamPickleRick · 03/01/2019 12:27

If you don’t know how far you are gone, then yes.

Jackshouse · 03/01/2019 12:27

A heart beat should be detectable from 7 weeks.

NHS will only scan early if there is a problem eg bleeding or you don’t know how many weeks pregnant you are. If not they typically you will be scanned at 12 and 20 weeks. You can book and pay private for other scans.

IamPickleRick · 03/01/2019 12:29

If OP knows her dates then obviously just call the GP. They’ll get an emergency appt for this if it’s close to 10 weeks. You need your nuchal fold before 14 weeks.

Springmummy19 · 03/01/2019 12:29

hannahbellaa no thats not true, I had an early pregnancy scan at 7 and a half weeks, I went A& E and was seen straight away but I guess that's because I was involved in a car accident.

Jackshouse · 03/01/2019 12:32

A and E will only normally scan if they suspect an eptopic pregnancy. Anything else is not an emergency so would be dealt by the appropriate department.

hannahbellaa · 03/01/2019 15:12

yes my last period was 21/11 it was a different type of bleed it was short abd just not normal.. then i havent had another one since.. i had a extremely light pregnancy test just before my due period on the 22/12 now when i take a test its so dark and the test line came up before the control line.. i dont no if that means anything its all too confusing! im waiting on a call back from the doctors as i cant get a appointment! springmummy did it show up properly at 7 weeks.. im so eager too find out how far i am x

OP posts:
Springmummy19 · 03/01/2019 15:27

hannahbellaa obviously the baby is tiny at 7 weeks so you couldn't see limbs but she was able to clearly see that baby was there, the heart was beating fine and there wasn't any signs of anything to worry about.

Just ry not to worry, once the appointment is booked and you go, they will be able to give you an accurate date, well ass accurate as possible. x

hannahbellaa · 03/01/2019 15:32

well i have just done a self referal so they will contact me in 24 hours she said! as soon as i find out i will pop a message on x

IamPickleRick · 03/01/2019 22:08

I did the clear blue test that gives you approximate guess for how pregnant you are. It doesn’t go past 5+ weeks though, that’s how I knew mine was quite far along already. I had just had a baby so had no periods yet. You could do that to give yourself an idea of how far? As someone else said, they add 2 weeks on for gestational age x

hannahbellaa · 04/01/2019 13:46

bevauae i dont how far i am.. my gp said i can go too a early baby unit at the hospital on monday.. i thought i could only ise that service if i had problems but appently not! gestation i dont no what that is.. im very clueless when it comes too anything like this! x
