Hand hold - cancelling trip due to nausea

Just looking for a bit of sympathy and reassurance really.

I'm 5+5. Was supposed to head off on a work trip today for a week. Been feeling a bit light headed, but ok to go. This morning, the nausea has hit me like a ton of bricks. If I can't get myself up in the next hour, I'll need to cancel.

It's not a big deal work wise, but I was looking forward to it. I know it's not a good idea to force myself to do things if I'm struggling. But I'm disappointed.

Blah.

Hi Op, congratulations on your pregnancy! My sickness hit at the same time as yours and it was utterly dreadful, but it will pass, even if it takes a while. There is thankfully a time limit Grin.
Try not to sweat the work trip- you may need to brace yourself for taking things a little easier whilst you feel rough. I had to stop working for a handful of weeks (which was scary as I'm self employed), but I wasn't able to 'push through'. Also lost money on flights we'd booked for our joint 40th birthday trip to Japan as I was too sick to go. At the time I was gutted, but now, listening to my toddler yelling at his dad for weetabix makes it all worth it!!
Talk on here if you need to- it kept me sane during the worst bits!

Thanks, saving - I really appreciate it! I almost cried that you were so nice to me, which shows that I'm not myself. :-)
I know I need to take it easy - it's just rubbish!

Congratulations!

Take it easy OP, it'll be much better for you in the long run! My nausea and sickness hit at the same time, which happened to be the first full day of our honeymoon. We were in the States and I forced myself to do stuff so as not to ruin it for both of us. I'm now 15 weeks and have been signed off work since we got home when I was 8 weeks. I know that pushing myself has done me no favours at all.

You and baby come first, if you're not up it you're not up to it.

Rest up! Much better for you and baby in the long run. We have just had to cancel a holiday in the summer, because I'll be quite late on. We had to pay over £100 to cancel and lost our deposit! But it's more important to keep baby healthy and be here should I need anything - that's how I see it. We don't have that sort of money to lose, but, our children are more important.
The one thing I have learnt so far in pregnancy is that you should not push yourself to do things if your body is saying no.

Hi OP.
Hope you managed to cancel. Just wanted to add that I pushed myself to carry on work wise and at home from about 5-9 weeks. I'm nearly 12 now and turned out I had hyperemesis and I'm on meds now for it. When I finally rested like I should have done and had time off I felt so much better. In fact the rest has had more benefit than the tablets. Nausea is a truly awful symptom.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, it aint a walk in the park but will be worth it for us all.

Hey I feel you like other people on the thread! It’s frustrating having to cancel plans because your body can’t keep up even though your mind is like ‘hey let’s do this!’ but there’s no point in pushing yourself. You know your body better than anyone else :) We went to Rome for a few nights back end of November and it was exhausting! I was around 24 weeks or so at the point. Forced myself to keep up with the stuff we had planned and by the time we got back... I needed a few days in bed to recover haha. Worth the gruelling pain but I’m thinking twice about scheduling something in before baby due date now. Not even a local trip as my walking is getting a bit painful with the extra weight.

Rest up!
