Baby bump

Hello 👋🏽
How do you tell a baby bump to a fat bloated belly?
I am a size 10-12 and quite petite but I always had a belly (my love of carbs is unconditional haha!) now 8 weeks pregnant I am not sure if I have a tiny baby bump or it is my bloated Xmas belly?

When did you start showing? Does the baby bump feel different? More around the belly button area or lower?

Xxx

Around 24-25 weeks for me!

Spooples · 01/01/2019 20:40

Certainly bloat at 8 weeks with baby number 1 I'm afraid. Baby is about the size of a raspberry at this point. So even with placenta and amniotic fluid, your uterus isn't big enough to form a bump.

TokenGinger · 01/01/2019 20:40

At your point in pregnancy, it's definitely not a bump. Your baby is the size of a grape and the placenta isn't yet developed so there's not enough there to be making a bump. It'll likely just be bloating.

I'm 17w4d and still don't have a bump but I am definitely thicker in the lower abdomen. My midwife told me you can start to show anywhere between 16-24 weeks with your first baby.

Thank you 🙏 time to cut down on carbs I think!

As above, it'll be bloat. With both my pregnancies I found at around 10-11 weeks the "bump" deflated a bit then from 14-15 weeks onwards the real bump started to show. Was about 20 weeks until it was anything significant with my first, bit earlier with this one.

I’m 18 weeks and have a little bump when I lie down you can see my uterus sticking out aswell and it just looks different and hard , when I woke one day about 16 weeks it just seemed to of pop more, at your stage my bloat seemed like bump too , but disappeared when I layed down x

sh13 · 01/01/2019 21:00

An don’t worry about cutting Down on carbs bloat is all part of pregnancy x

Bambamber · 01/01/2019 21:12

You will probably be bloated carbs or no carbs, so may as well enjoy the carbs!

Crazyeyes3 · 01/01/2019 21:45

My bump has appeared this week at 16+2 weeks and it’s only small.

curiositycreature · 01/01/2019 21:50

I’m 15w and have definitely been bloated for about two or three. Definitely bloat because it disappears in the morning. This was a well timed post... I’d just been googling baby bumps because this evening I don’t feel bloated but my tummy feels huge. I’ve suddenly realised how many of these internet bump photos I’ve seen come from size 6 women and am therefore miserable comparing myself to them!!

sunshinebaby2018 · 01/01/2019 22:30

@curiositycreature I was wondering the same about some google images- kinda wish I had a flat stomach before so I could tell the difference! But a bit late for a size 6 and a six pack now :) good luck all with your pregnancies StarThanks❤️

I was seriously bloated at around 7 weeks, I felt like I looked really obviously pregnant. Its gone down a bit now at 10 weeks, now I just look fat from stuffing myself to stave off the morning sickness and with christmassy crap

BeverlyZimek · 02/01/2019 02:31

I’m carrying twins and didn’t start showing until about 12 weeks and even that was very slightly but everyone is different so you could be? Congratulations by the way!

sunshinebaby2018 · 02/01/2019 17:21

@BeverlyZimek I have twins as well!! Excited and nervous in the same time - maybe I should start a twins thread we can share tips/advice? 😘

I was very bloated all the time until maybe about 9 weeks. I'm now 16 weeks with an obvious bump. It is very hard, my stomach looks quite 'full' in all positions. Some people get bumps earlier, some later. I actually think I might be a bit further on than my dates, as I can feel baby moving clear as day as well. Not all the time, but when she's wiggling, I really know!

SpottedTiger · 02/01/2019 18:00

I was very bloated from 5 weeks with first pregnancy and had to go up a jeans size at that point, also had my first comment about looking pregnant at this point, by 9 weeks I was in maternity clothes and gradually the swollen bloated belly was replaced by a firmer baby bump. I never realised how much havock pregnancy plays with your digestion, so whilst the bump is likely to be bloated rather than baby, it's probably pregnancy related.

iAMequal · 02/01/2019 18:15

I lost half a stone in the first trimester and you could definitely tell I was pregnant - both times!

My belly was round and rock hard. But I did have excess water both times so maybe I'm the exception rather than the rule.

BeverlyZimek · 02/01/2019 19:07

@sunshinebaby2018 congratulations, yeah that would be great!

Blondemother · 02/01/2019 21:03

I was slim (for me!) and eating low carb and had a big tummy early on. The bloat deflated at about 11 weeks (when I was eating every carb in sight to keep sickness away) then noticeable bump was nearer 20 weeks I think.

Katiecausesmischief · 02/01/2019 21:21

I’m almost 30 weeks & people are still surprised when I tell them I am pregnant!! Even wearing a swimming costume!! But I am slightly larger in size!
I only moved out of normal clothes at about 24 weeks

PeachMelba78 · 02/01/2019 22:12

I was in maternity from 8 weeks, my initial bloat came from the post IVF injection but my body remembered pregnancy and I had a noticeable bump from 10 weeks onwards which people noticed.
I am very petite and short, and baby is 91st percentile so right now I am massive at 37 +5!

Springmummy19 · 03/01/2019 09:04

I'm 24 +4 now, I started to show a little at about 15 weeks but you couldn't tell if I was pregnant or just fat/bloated. It's only in the last 3 weeks I feel that you can clearly tell I'm pregnant.

Every body is different so it can all vary, I've seen people show as early as 9-10 weeks but I've also seen people who don't have a prominent belly even thought they are in the last trimester.

ps1991 · 03/01/2019 09:13

I started showing about 16-20 weeks, currently 37 weeks, can't remember a time before bump!! Blush

BeverlyZimek · 03/01/2019 16:14

Here’s what my bump looked like last night, and my family wonder why I can’t get to sleep 😂

sh13 · 03/01/2019 16:59

BeverlyZimek Wow! how many weeks are you? X
