So scared Cyclizine will stop working

Hi,

I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with nausea from 4 weeks. It has been very bad this last week and I spent most of Christmas in bed feeling terrible.
I have only been sick once but I think the only reason I haven’t been sick more is that I have a fear of being sick so stop myself and just gag and retch.
I was the same with my last pregnancy although the sickness didn’t start so early which terrifies me that it will be worse than before. The medication I had with that pregnancy did not help at all.

Yesterday I was prescribed cyclizine and this has given me some relief (yay!) although I wish I could take more than 3 a day as I really feel it as soon as they start wearing off.
I’m now terrified the cyclizine will stop working and I’m thinking about it constantly.

Has anyone had some success with this drug working all the way through pregnancy? Or do the effects wear off?

I’m scared that by week 9-12 it won’t be working and the sickness will be worse than ever!

I've had success with it I'll be honest.

Some days though i am sick no matter what. Nothing helps at all... but, cyclizine is my saviour. I try not to take it as a must, so at the moment i get up from bed and i throw up. That's standard and i deal with it... then after half hour or so i take cyclizine. If i need it then throughout the day, then i take it but sometimes i have been known to be distracted or i haven't eaten a trigger food or smelt a trigger drink... if i don't have the tablets on me though then i panic... so for me, just having it in my pocket or bag is enough!!

I'll now 18 weeks. I still have sickness and all the other gross feelings... I'm not feeling magical or glowing...!

Xxx

There are other meds that can be added on top if it stops being as effective - look up the hyperemesis thread in the pg section - they know a lot about the different meds. plus pregnancy sickness support charity (google) have info around the meds guidelines and what to ask for.

I had promethazine (phenergan) for 30 days which Ive just finished- thats another entry level anti-emetic.

24 weeks this Friday and still throwing up 10+ times a day unfortunately. Tried every single pill they could give me and absolutely none of them did a thing.

I started on cyclizine at 6 weeks but it wasn't enough as the nausea kept getting worse. My GP sent me through to the hospital because of dehydration (nausea meant I couldn't drink) where they gave me several different drugs to try. The first one didn't help enough, the 2nd in combination with cyclizine is just about OK.

You might have to work a bit harder to get a GP to prescribe the 2nd line drugs (the side effects are a lot worse) and it was a miserable week while I worked out which ones worked for me - but don't give up hope if cyclizine isn't enough!

Pregnancy Sickness Support

Oral cyclizine didn’t do much for me, but there are other drugs.

There are other drugs you can take if it stops being effective but I've been on it for about 10 weeks now (I'm currently 15 weeks) and its still working fine.

Thank you so much fif setting my mind st ease a bit.
Unfortunately the cyclizine doesn’t seem to be going the job so well today.
I will keep it up and if it gets too bad again I’ll have to go back to the GP and ask for something else.
