Toxoplasmosis - kitten tested positive

Just after some advice. 22 weeks pregnant and got an 8 week old kitten not knowing that it’s not advised to get a new cat/kitten while pregnant. OB’s advised to just not clean the litter tray and all would be fine. However I am negative to Toxo (despite having cats/kittens for 24 years). I decided to get the kitten tested to ease my mind and she actually came back positive for a recent infection! We found a home for her straight away and I never touched the litter tray (poo was always scooped promptly by husband) and always had good hand hygiene after any contact with her but I’m absolutely terrified that I’ve put my baby at risk and thinking the absolute worst. My OB seemed concerned once I told him she tested positive and now I have to wait for a blood test to show if I’ve contracted it. Should I be concerned that I had contact with her? Or do you literally have to consume poo to catch it?

I think it’s quite a slim chance that you have caused any harm, and from what I have read it’s much more serious in early pregnancy. Try not to worry too much until you have your results, and keep us posted x

I wouldn’t worry too much-I mucked out an entire flower bed whilst pregnant before being informed by DH he’d seen local cats toileting there - I still tested negative. Good hand hygiene is the key I think.

I had to clean and maintain the flowered of our rented, neighbours cats had been shitting in it, as much as I scrubbed and cleaned I still got toxo. You've been tested though so all you can do now is wait and see.
