Okay so I have a holiday booked for Thailand, this has been planned for about a year or so now. I have since found out that I am pregnant and now have to decide whether I am going to cancel the holiday or go anyway. After speaking with the nurse and the midwife, I feel like neither of them have any answers. One was of the opionons that the risk was low and I shouldn't worry, while the other said the risk was moderate and should be postponed. Has anyone been while pregnant in the past few years? What were your experiences? I really want to go and dont want to loose the money, but obviously not at the expense of risking my child's health. Please help!

I'll be 18 weeks in 2nd trimester if that makes any difference

Hey I went to Thailand when I was 10weeks pregnant and it was absolutely fine. You just have to be careful in regards to where you go out ..don't go to dirty places and make sure your hotel is clean etc. Also avoid drinks with ice in Smile

Zika is not in the water nor does it have anything to do with cleanliness. It's is born by mosquitos. No, personally I wouldn't risk my baby.

I wouldn't personally. We turned down a trip to the Dominican Republic when we were ttc as it wasn't worth the risk - I'm now 18 weeks and wouldn't go anywhere near any country that has Zika. It may be low risk but to me it's not worth any risk!

Can’t you claim on travel insurance? Advice does seem to be to avoid travel there if pregnant.

Janleverton · 31/12/2018 17:38

There’s a link from the Foreign and a Commonwealth office that says

“This country is considered to have a moderate risk of Zika virus transmission. Pregnant women should consider postponing non-essential travel until after the pregnancy.”

I wouldn’t. Will travel insurance pay out? It’s not an accident or illness. Check your cover.

Postpone. Or see if you can shift the holiday to an alternative location (chances of this will depend on if its package or self organised).
Have you already got travel insurance?

Tiredeyes21 · 31/12/2018 17:58

Speak to your holiday operator and most likely they will change the destination for you...

Unfortunately we booked it all ourselves so there is no travel agent. Didn't think to get insurance (stupidly) as in the past we have only don't this before we went away. Didn't realise it covered you before you go! Wil have to do some phone wrestling tomorrow to try and get my money back or change location / dates etc. Thanks for the help everyone, I think I've known all along I wouldn't go, just in denial🤣😭 x

I was booked to go to Mexico when I found out I was pregnant, would have been about 7/8 weeks when I was going however I made the decision not to go. I got a letter from my doctor and the travel agent gave us the money back however had to spent this money on another holiday (we chose just to go to Spain and for the difference back).

Not sure how this would work if you booked yourself though.
