Should i be worried about my bump? (Or lack of)

I am 21+3 weeks pregnant so almost 5 months and this is the size of my bump! I swear it was bigger at 12 weeks, it's as if it is disappearing! Everyone keeps saying 'omg your tiny' 'are you sure there's a baby in there' and it just making me feel very anxious. I have friends who are 4 and 7 weeks behind me yet are showing more than I am!
Just wondering what everyone else's bumps are/were like at this stage? Is there anything to worry about?

I had a friend who was like you, she never really got a bump but produced a lovely, healthy baby.

I'm guessing this is your first? You probably just have very strong tummy muscles!

TickleMeEmo · 29/12/2018 19:58

I was like this with my first.... no bump until around 32 weeks, but never got big. DS was a big healthy 9lb baby, everyone kept asking where I was hiding him 😂

This time round I am 27 weeks and already about the size I was at 38 weeks last time!

Olivecake · 29/12/2018 19:58

I didn’t get any kind of bump until around 24/25 weeks then it suddenly developed and hasn’t stopped growing since, I look very much pregnant now at 36 weeks. Before I was pregnant I thought I would have an enormous obvious bump early on because I’m quite small and slim but apparently that doesn’t always mean you show quicker!

I did wonder if mine grew so slowly as I have hyperemesis and lost a lot of weight early on but apparently it’s very normal for people to vary - so many factors affect the way you carry.

Have you had your 20 week scan? If they weren’t worried then and if the midwife isn’t concerned then I wouldn’t worry either.

mommysharkdodo · 29/12/2018 20:03

Yeah this is my first! I guess I'm a little jealous of my friends who look 'obviously pregnant' as I just look like Iv eat a few too much cake over Christmas 🙈 but am told a big bump isn't much fun so I suppose as long as baby is healthy (everything seemed fine at 20 week scan) il just have to wait a bit longer 🙂

I remember feeling jealous of bigger friends too. Like my pregnancy almost didn't exist! Presumably your 20 week scan showed everything was ok? If so, enjoy it before you get uncomfortable. With my first I was very neat all the way to the end. Strong stomach muscles and being tall was the cause

mrsed1987 · 29/12/2018 20:09

I didnt show but that was because im chunky lol once i got to 30 weeks it became more obvious! Everyone is different but your midwife will start measuring at your appointments and if she concerned youll know.

Perch · 29/12/2018 20:11

Strong stomach muscles! You’ll thank them later 😜

MrsScamander · 29/12/2018 20:18

I wouldn't worry as long as baby is measuring fine.

With both my pregnancies there were people who didn't know I was pregnant until I turned up at work/school run with a newborn.

gebs · 29/12/2018 20:29

I am 20 weeks on Monday and I am the same as you, my jeans prepregnancy still fit (though not so comfortable with the top button done up!) and my family have been commenting on my lack of bump. I just feel like I look I've over done it with the quality street to everyone else!

snoopy18 · 29/12/2018 21:32

Wouldn’t worry about it you’ve probably got good stomach muscles! Bump popped out on our trip to Rome around 24-25 weeks. Felt like it came from overnight Hmm gets really uncomfy enjoy the small bump!

SomethingAboutNothing · 29/12/2018 21:38

You look quite fit so I would assume you have lovely strong stomach muscles holding everything in. My cousin was similar with her first. When do you next see your mw? I'm sure she will be able to reassure you all is well.

CobaltRose96 · 29/12/2018 21:53

I didn't show at all until I was around 24/25 weeks, and then my bump seemed to appear overnight! I'm now 30 weeks and have a definite baby bump.

Popskipiekin · 29/12/2018 21:57

Baby will be tucked in there somewhere Grin I didn’t show remotely until 20 weeks with my first. A friend has just had second DC, 9lb+, and I don’t know where she was hiding him, she barely had any bump until the end. We all carry differently. I get how annoying the comments must be, though. Try to relax and enjoy your last few months!

Smeeeeeee · 29/12/2018 21:58

I didn't really show until 6 months with my fourth! Strong tummy muscles due to Piyo Grin

mommysharkdodo · 30/12/2018 20:32

Thanks everyone for your replies! I did used to have a good toned stomach from dancing, I guess then muscles have just been hiding for a few years and are back in use now 😂
Does anyone know where abouts I should be feeling for movement at this stage? Almost 22 weeks, is it still quite low down or more near my belly button?

I saw a story of a young girl who didn’t know she was pregnant max found out quite late, 8 months maybe? And the baby was transverse. Nurse turned baby round and she had an instant bump - could weep thinking about her poor skin having to stretch like that in one go!

Lomondstripe · 30/12/2018 20:40

*but found out, not max

Hollywhiskey · 30/12/2018 21:26

I was the opposite last time, in maternity clothes from 14 weeks. People make loads of stupid comments about that too. When I was 20 weeks someone said I looked like I was due any day. I also kept getting asked if it was twins then the armchair experts would say that the scans probably missed them. It really stopped me enjoying my pregnancy to be honest.
You're looking amazing and you're obviously doing really well. You need to ignore the armchair experts and only listen to health professionals who have at least read your maternity notes.
I gained about 5 stone eating crap last time and this time I've read up so much about weight gain and apparently you don't really need to gain weight until the second half of the pregnancy. If I look like you at 20 weeks I'll be delighted.
Congratulations and good luck.

RogueV · 30/12/2018 21:30

You look great!!!!

Iswallowtoothpaste · 30/12/2018 22:12

Well I think you’ve got a gorgeous bump!

tobeornottobe1 · 30/12/2018 22:24

Op you look amazing! How did your 20 week scan go? They would of checked baby over then x

E20mom · 30/12/2018 22:35

I think my bump popped out at about 26 weeks. Pretty normal for your first.

mommysharkdodo · 31/12/2018 20:45

Thank you all for your lovely comments I feel so much better now and feel like I can now enjoy my little bump instead of worrying because it's not how people think it should look!
My 20 week scan went perfect, she said everything looked fine and I have my next midwife appointment in 3 weeks time. I'm so glad that after this one I get more regular appointments! It's really stressful going so long without seeing a midwife and just hearing the words that everything's fine!
