NCT refresher course

Has anyone done an NCT refresher?

The friends I met on NCT were great for that first year on maternity leave.

Pregnancy with number 2 and I’d like to have that network again. We moved a bit but not that far, but issue is more that most people from first time aren’t having more children yet or have already had them, no one at the same stage.

Is it the same? Do you get a network?

I can't answer your question OP but I would also like to know. Also expecting my 2nd but never did the NCT classes with my first and feel like a missed out on a support network.

Hi, I’ve just done a refresher last month. For my first, 6 years ago we were at the other end of the country and we made firm friends. Probably saw them at least weekly for the first year, then regularly for dinners, birthdays, random meet ups. Best friends I ever bought! ;)

The refresher course was only 3 short evenings, and we could only make two of them. Unfortunately only two other couples, neither of whom live with 10 miles of me, and tbh neither of whom I felt like I had much in common with.

It wasn’t as expensive as the original NCT course, so I don’t mind that we did it. I got some useful contact details for things like feeding support, sling library etc and some good refreshing of feeding advice etc.

I suspect if there had been a few more couples we would have got more out of it. Hope that helps.

I’m not sure if the NCT do this, but we had an independent one close to us who arranged second time round classes according to the age gap you’ll have between children. I didn’t end up doing them as it was at an inconvenient time for me but it sounded like a good idea if you were after meeting people in a similar situation.

I wanted to do one - for the support network/social aspect mostly - but my nearest course was too far away to make any sense (very much doubt I would have met anyone local).

I've posted on a few local FB parenting groups to find local ladies due around the same time as me, and set up a small private FB group. TBH nothing much has come of it yet, but there are a handful of members so I'm hopeful I might meet some of them once baby is here.

There are always apps like Mush to join to try and meet local mums too.

Didn't do NCT for #1, but did a refresher for #2. There were 4 of us, plus one husband (the other 3 were looking after firstborns!) Best thing I ever did. 23 years on, we're still going strong and meeting up for meals, coffee etc. We just gelled. Think there's an element of luck in the mix of your group, of course, but definitely worth giving it a go!
