Back pain - first trimester

I am 12+5 and suffering from terrible back pain - particularly lower back - after lying in bed. I am waking up at 4ish every morning and struggling to get back to sleep because I'm in pain.

It's been going on for about 3 weeks. I thought it was my new mattress but old beds I've always found wonderfully comfortable are just as bad.

I used to sleep on my stomach but that's out now as my boobs hurt, so trying to train myself into sleeping on my Side with a pregnancy pillow. However both back positions and side result in pain in the morning.

Just wondered if other people had back pain this early and if you have any tips? Is it worth going to the doctor?

i had this from my previous pregnancy, suggestions i got from my midwife were make sure you have a mattress topper / fold up a duvet under your bed sheet to lay on. Keep your knees together as much as possible e.g. when turning over, when swinging out the car. Avoid standing on one leg e.g. to put trousers on.

I would contact your midwife and ask for a physio referral asap

mine lasted the whole of my pregnancy, but went away soon after my DD was born

Where is the pain? I have had pain in my lower back - to the right of the base of my spine - since 6 weeks. It got very bad around 12 weeks (14 weeks now) - went to physio who said it was my SI joint, gave me some exercises and 'cranked' things back into place. Said it was very common in pregnancy. Paid for this physio btw, referral for NHS only just came through and is for a group exercise class Hmm and I've been told the NHS physio in my area won't do physical manipulation. I found the manipulation really helped, as has wearing a brace.
