Can anyone please give me some advice on how they managed to get into active labour? I’m 38+5 days and I’m so they say carrying a big baby, I had a sweep 5 days ago where she stretch me from 1cm to 2cm and the flowing day I lost my plug and had a show and started contracting! I went into hospital when they were around 5 minutes apart and they checked me and said I was fully effaced and 2cm and to go home and wait for the contractions to get more intense, have paracetmol a bath move around etc! I did all of that and my contractions were still coming every 5 mins or so just not getting any stronger! 2 days later after contracting on and off I called the hospital again and they asked me to come in to see if I’ve dilated anymore, turns out I’m still 2cm, midwife felt my waters around the babies head and said my cervix is stretchy but I just feel so deflated and disheartened, any advice how to get out of this stage? Xx

It could be positioning. Have a look on the spinning babies website. Good luck

No advice here. I got as far as 5cm on my own and then had to have the hormone drip to hurry things along. I stopped dilating as soon as i got into hospital for some reason, despite having regualr contractions for around 20 hours.

A Christmas eve baby is my bet! Good luck!

Oh bless you. Sounds like you are having a hard time.

This isn't going to be what you want to hear, but its only going to start properly when baby is fully ready. There are things you can do to encourage labour along, but sounds like rest might be the thing you need the most. The hospital wont really do anything for a long latent phase but it sounds like you are doing it all already. Its amazing that you have a stretchy cervix, it just needs to actually stretch now!

Things to think about-
Have you had enough to eat and drink? If you are dehydrated or not got enough energy, it could be stalling things.
Are you weeing regularly? An empty bladder will let the baby's head descend further.
Making time for resting/ sleeping as much as possible but also walking/moving around to get this babe in a good position.
If you are finding it hard to relax, maybe have a small glass of wine?

Fingers crossed for you xx
