How often are you using the OPKs? I think the window for getting an accurate result is v small!

Hi Beansprout
Have been using them every day for about 10 days. Used them in the morning cause the last time I came off the pill I used them for month and got a positive on day 20 and 21 but nothing so far this month. Now have read that using them in the morning is a bad idea - but who can not pee for four hours in the middle of the day?!
First month off the pill again so maybe just wonky cycles but it's bothering me.
What do you reackon?
Thanks!

Treenie,

I tried the OPKs one month. I found it absolute TORTURE trying to hold on in the middle of the day and not drink anything. I also never detected a surge so I gave up on them - I still have a spare packet of them at home - good old Boots 2 for 1 deal!

I got pregnant the next month.

I think they don't work for everyone.

Good luck TTC.

I used them every month for 8 months - got positive results each month but no pregnancy......the month I stopped using them and had actually decided to give up for a while I fell pregnant!!

Think they mess around with your mind a weeny bit, work for some tho.......good luck xxx

PBirdy, just had yet another negative - was holding both a normal one and a digital one under there which is actually quite tricky! But 'computer says no'!
So I can't tell you how reassuring it is to hear from you that you can get preggers even if you get a negative result.
It's very disheartening when you don't think your body is working properly.
Thanks so much for your advice. How many weeks are you now?

I am 14 weeks now. I would just give up on them if they are not working for you. There are plenty of other things to stress about! I have a number of friends who they just didn't work for.

For me, the thing that worked I think (other than pure luck) was preseed. I was a smoker so I think that affected things and the one month I tried that it worked - might be a co-incidence, might not be.

Good luck - it will happen - then you will have the joys of morning sickness to look forward to

Thanks Pbirdy - very willing to have morning sickness - better than worrying yourself sick that you haven't ov!

Can I also ask if you got ov pains and how they felt? I had some sharp pain in my left side last night and then some crampy pains.
Not convinced it wasn't just wind though!

And 14 weeks - how exciting! Very jealous! x

I think I got ovulation pains. I definitely got a cramp on one side like you are saying although it was usually my right side rather than left for me. That said, they didn't really help me to assess when I was ovulating, because I also got them around the same time as my period.

The other thing that worked for me, sorry if TMI, was the whole cervical mucus thing. Actually, that was the most instructive clue I could get from my body.
