Dh is adamant I can't eat pineapple. Google seems to say to avoid large amounts of fresh pineapple. I just want to eat tinned pineapple. It's the only thing I want through all this nausea. Can I???

Of course you can. Some people believe it'll induce labour but I'm sure there'll be a million overdue women on here that'll tell you that's an old wives tale.

Go for it! Yum.

I lived on cheese and pineapple on a stick in my first trimester.

Go for it!

Of course you can! You would need to eat loads of them to have any sort of effect

I ate a quarter pineapple every evening throughout my first trimester when I was pregnant with DD1 as it was only thing that helped my nausea. I did a lot of research on it and apparently you have to eat a ridiculous amount for the bromelain to be in significant enough quantities to have any effect...

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 22/12/2018 10:40

Course you can. I ate 2 entire pineapples to jog DD along at 41 weeks and it didn't work. I think you're safe enough to eat a normal amount.

mortifiedmama · 22/12/2018 10:45

It's fine. There's a theoretical possibility of very high levels of bromelain could bring on labour. Bromelain is found in very small quantities in the core of pineapple. Bit you'd need to eat lots of pineapple cores before it became an issue!

CrabbyPatty · 22/12/2018 11:05

My Midwife said it's actually the eating the stalk that induces labour!

WeeBean · 22/12/2018 12:15

A friend who is also pregnant told warned me about pineapple and when I looked online it was full of information about it causing miscarriage and early labour however there was info to say small amounts are ok. We were in Hawaii on honeymoon when I was 5-8 weeks pregnant and there was pineapple EVERYWHERE!! I resisted at first but really craved it so I allowed myself small amounts. I asked my GP about it when we got home and she said it was the first she'd heard of avoiding pineapple. I was so happy, it's delicious!

Limit yourself to fewer than 50 pineapples a day.

I live in one of the lands of pineapples. I'm fairly sure my obgyn would have warned me against it if at all relevant.

Yes! It's one of your five a day.
