12 week scan at 15 weeks? Worried about NT

I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant. My scan isn't until 9th January, when I will be 15 weeks pregnant. My midwife has tried to reassure me that they will still be able to check the nuchal translucency and do the blood test for downs syndrome at that point. Has anyone else had these tests done at 15 weeks? Please reassure me!

15 weeks is too late for the combined screening test, I’d give the clinic a ring on Monday and see if you can rearrange.

This happened to me so I called them and they basically said “oh yeah” and brought it forward, ask them to change it.

From memory when I had to reschedule the latest they can do them is 13+6. I'd try calling and rescheduling.

I was told 13+5 four the combined test. Apparently other tests are available but my hospital didnt do them - call and check

Thanks guys. Believe me I've already tried to reschedule it! But because it's Christmas/New year it's just not possible. I'm on a list at the scan dept to be phoned if there are any cancellations. I feel like I've been really let down by my midwives, I phoned them 3 times over the last month to voice my concerns about the fact that I wasn't getting my booking appointment until I was 12 weeks, and that it was so close to Christmas. Hoping they would put me forward for a scan sooner. But they said no, that it would be fine, that the scan dept would be able to see me really quickly etc. It's my first pregnancy, so maybe I was a bit naive taking their word for it and wasn't as pushy as I should have been.

Are you in a position to do the harmony test? It's so much more reassuring if you can afford to

Hi lovely, although not the same, I do have a similar experience. At 12 weeks I had to go for 3 scans and each time baby was in the wrong position for nuchal fold, so they didn't do my bloods at all!! I went back at 15 weeks and they took my blood for downs syndrome (callrd a quad test) but it's too late to test for Edwards and Patau. The results for downs came back promptly and accurately (1/7487 was my chance). I was extremely worried about the fact I couldn't be screened for the other 2 as they were the ones I worried most about. Instead, at both 15 and 20 weeks you notify the sonogropher you haven't been screened for these and they do a more thorough anomaly check looking for physical abnormalities. I did find the NHS detailed at 20 but at 15 they weren't at all!! I was so stressed so paid for a private scan where they were so thorough and checked everything down to how many fingers and toes baby has. It's a really worrying time but there are ways of getting round it. I know you feel disappointed but there's not a 100% guarantee they would have got the results needed at 12 weeks anyway. Good luck lovely xc

Completely unacceptable. They are obliged to scan you by 13+6 at the latest. Keep ringing. The scan department will be open on Monday. Ask to speak to the person in charge.

FoxgloveStar · 22/12/2018 08:51

Definitently keep ringing and insisting. Refer them to their own information???

Ring and ask to speak to their antenatal screening coordinator, she might be able to help
