Good morning all,

So I'm a little new to all this. It's my first pregnancy.
And I'm feeling super confused.

4 weeks ago I started spotting I'm now predicted around 8 weeks. So anyway I had to go to Hillingdon early pregnancy unit for an early scan. At this point I probably was around 4 week so no Fetal pole no egg yolk nothing so was asked to come back in just over a week so I did this time yolk Sack and Fetal heart action detected but wanted me back in 2 weeks so yesterday I go back... here's where I get confused... she puts the Doppler thing in (sorry!) and says I'm so sorry it's empty there's nothing there.. I'm really sorry so I'm like ok... she says hang on and puts it in again and says "oh there it is yep this is baby ... yep no heartbeat though ... yea not finding a heart beat I'm really sorry but looks as though this pregnancy isn't going to continue" anyway we go into the waiting area & then the Dr calls us back in I'm thinking to discuss the next step to have it removed and she says "this is a Strange Case because although we couldn't find a heart beat the embryo has grown" (I felt like saying well she actually said firstly the sac was bloody empty!) so now they want me to go back in a week.

During the wait a lady was in there and said she was having the same problem and her friend had had the same and went to a private clinic and they found the baby and heart beat instantly

Has anyone else had issues like this with Hillingdon early pregnancy (pageant ward)

We've booked a private reassurance scan on Saturday to see if that gives us more answers but any other comments would be great.

Thank you xxxxx

Sorry you're going through this. I don't have direct experience of this or of Hillingdon, but it sounds like your dates might be off and you're, for example, closer to 5 weeks pregnant? Heart beat doesn't always start until 6 weeks +, I think. If you have irregular cycles that can happen.

Did they give you the measurements of the slack etc/a summary letter or at least tell you how many weeks the current size corresponds to? That might give us an extra clue.

I've been in a situation where I've had to go back for early scans to check progress and it's definitely a worrying time and always passes so, so slowly. Hopefully Saturday might offer some comfort. Although be prepared for more confusion if they use a slightly different machine in the private test! These things are notoriously difficult to measure early on, and in any case we're taking millimetres measured remotely. So unfortunately this is often all a bit of guesswork and waiting. If the private scan is no help, at least you've tried and there's another NHS one on the horizon.

Really hope it works out for you!

PS you might want to have a look on here for your hospital, in case it maybe helps you shed some light on recurring problems.

Hi lovely thank you so much. I'm so confused by the dates. My period was 14th October I conceived on the 28th and my cycle can be 33-36 days so I'm so confused! Hang on here is a photo of this time and the time before xx

Sorry to hear you're going through this! I'd book a private scan immediately, I'd want to know answers straight away. Was your exam internal?

Dollydoo22 · 20/12/2018 12:02

Hi love, it was internal. Have a private scan on Saturday at 11am xx

Not to worry about the photos.

You could easily be 6 weeks instead of 8. Sometimes the egg takes a couple of days to travel down the tube, and/or takes a couple of days longer to implant etc. So it's not an exact science on dates by any means. I'm 11+1 today, with crazy irregular cycles (usually 33-36 but sometimes 43+!). I was so of my LMP and ovulation date (from OPKs) but early scans have consistently put me a week behind. The baby is the right size, growing, healthy, good heart beat etc. It's just one of those things apparently. So keep going until you get a clearer picture. So frustrating though!

Dollydoo22 · 20/12/2018 12:35

Thanks lovely that makes me feel better. I mean I didn't even conceive 8 weeks ago so it's super confusing!! Fingers crossed for Saturday I appreciate your comments xxxx

Yes it's very confusing that they count two weeks when you're technically not pregnancy as pregnancy. Took me ages to get my head round that!

Do let us know how you get on.xx

explodingkitten · 20/12/2018 12:55

I second that you might have conceived later than you think. If the date of your last period was 14 october and you have 33 day cycles you might have conceived beginning of november, plus that the time the egg takes to travel down the tube can easily differ with up to six days between people.

Anyway, I hope that it will turn out well. This sonographer doesn't sound like she did a good scan.

sugarplumfairy2010 · 20/12/2018 13:11

I had similar I had some light spotting went for a scan should of been 6 weeks there was no heartbeat was told to come back in 10 days I went back still no heartbeat but they said the sac had grown had to wait another 10 days went back and a Mcc was confirmed. It was horrible having it dragged out over a month I hope you have a better outcome. 6 months later I conceived again and now have a healthy 1 yr old.

Dollydoo22 · 20/12/2018 13:45

I say conceived I mean that's the date we had sex 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm so new to this and feel so clueless and naive! Thanks everyone these posts are making me feel so much better. Fingers crossed xxx

Hi lovely,

sorry for the delay. I came off of all of these things for a while.

unfortunately I miscarried on the 23rd December - twins :-(

I think I've come on today so fingers crossed a 2019 baby could still happen.

Dollydoo22 · 14/01/2019 15:41

I'm so sorry to hear that be kind to yourself and take time to heal... If it's any consolation I've read that you're quite fertile after a miscarriage, so if you're ready it would be great to start trying. Don't put too much pressure on yourself xx
