Hello! I have been trying to find out what happens in my circumstances, but can’t work it out and wondered if anyone had any advice. I work all year round but get paid in irregular lump sums (random number of payments a year). Do I get SMP? How does it work? Any advice very welcome. Thanks

If you are a freelancer you are classed as self employed. So no holiday pay I assume? And therefore no SMP. Look up maternity allowance instead

It’s stat mat allowance. It’s easy enough to claim. You need your MatB1 and the record of your income. It’s paid same at SMP, around £140 a week for 36 weeks depending on circumstances.

Go on the direct.gov website and it will explain it all there. As above PP said you'll need a matb1 form, these notes will explain what you evident you'll need to send in to support your application. It's really easy, I had to do claim this for both of mine.
