Peeing in the night or NOT?!

Hi,

I am 7 + 5 wks with my third pregnancy (2nd was MMC at 12wk scan).

First few weeks after finding out I was pregnant I was waking to pee once in the middle of the night.

These last few days I've noticed I'm not waking and managing to hold until the morning.

After failed pregnancy last time the littlest things age stressing me... has anyone else has this with peeing or even not woke to pee in first trimester at all?

I mostly escaped the night peeing in the first trimester. In fact, I didn’t notice any increase in the number of wees I did at all. In retrospect, I probably needed to drink more - I don’t think I increased my water intake at all.

At the end of the first trimester, just as the uterus is supposed to start lifting off the bladder so you don’t wee as much, the night weeing started. Fortunately, it coincided with the end of the first trimester nausea/irrational hunger, so I was able to get back to sleep afterwards and didn’t have to get up for breakfast each time. I am insanely grateful for that small mercy! It could just be that I increased my water intake (my body and the things I was reading both made it clear that I needed to do so), and had I done this in the first trimester I’d have had all of the wee symptoms.

It’s been weird, though - for most of my life I’ve been the sort of person who wees more regularly than most. To be the outlier who doesn’t wee more in early pregnancy is about the last thing I expected!

I drink 4/5 litres of water a day so I usually get up to pee once in the night. I think the body is a mysterious thing and pregnancy symptoms can differ from person to person so much, I wouldn’t worry about this.. 😊

I never woke during the night needing the toilet, I'd wake in the morning ready to burst though.

CobaltRose96 · 19/12/2018 09:37

I'm 28 weeks and so far have never woken in the night needing the loo. I am bursting when I wake up, though.

I escaped the night trips entirely or the frequency of needing to go in 1st and most of 2nd trimester. Which I felt was strange too as with DC1 I was constant needing to go. 25+5 now and it has become twice a night. Don't worry too much.

FoxgloveStar · 19/12/2018 09:45

This is not something to worry about!!!

Michelle0507 · 19/12/2018 11:05

I am 11w I get up between 2 - 5 times from like 10pm - 7am. I drink a fair bit even through the night before I was pregnant I'd get up 1 - 2 times during the night. I imagine once the baby grows it's more likely.

ladycarlotta · 19/12/2018 11:21

I was waking to pee early in the first trimester, like you. It's just a 'sweet spot' of a few weeks when your uterus is a bit larger, but hasn't yet moved higher into your pelvis, so it's putting more pressure on your bladder than usual. By 12 weeks my peeing was pretty much back to normal, but I'm sure it varies person to person.

DannyWallace · 19/12/2018 11:25

I'm 29 weeks and usually don't have to get up at all over night.
I'm sure this will change soon though 😂

RiskIt4Biscuit · 19/12/2018 13:00

I sometimes needed to get up during the night, other times I didn't.
That was true for the 1st trimester, and it is true now I'm 37 weeks.

Thanks everyone for you reassurance.

@runruth400 yes - me. I'm currently nearly 7 weeks ish but in the first few weeks I was getting up in the night to pee every night. This has stopped and now I'm making it to the morning most nights, but probably partly due to me not drinking loads this week as I feel pretty shite. But I wouldn't say it was anything to worry about. Would an early private reassurance scan be of any help to you? With a previous MMC I would be going out of my mind with worry too. Xx

Runruth400 · 21/12/2018 16:39

@Crossfitgirl glad to know I'm not the only one.

I have ended up being scanned Wednesday because had some pain and I'm possibly only 5 weeks ish as a sac was seen but nothing else ☹️ had HCG levels checked currently waiting for phone call for my result this morning 48hr after first.

So emotional and scared what the outcome is going to be. Hopefully just was too early to see any heartbeat or anything 🤞🏼

I'm 11+3, and I'd say for the past 5 weeks or so I've had to get up at least once in the night for a pee (dodging 2 cats sprawled out in hallway trying to trip me up)

Crossfitgirl · 21/12/2018 21:19

Aw good luck I hope your results are positive. I've been told for private early scans it's best to wait until past 6 weeks to see the heartbeat as even just a few days out on date can mean you won't see anything and it might cause unnecessary worry. I'm sure all will be fine for you lovely xxx

Michelle0507 · 21/12/2018 21:40

We saw a heartbeat at bang on 6w but she did say if you'd come 2 days prior we probably wouldn't have.

gimmeadoughnut123 · 22/12/2018 19:11

Towards the end of your first trimester your uterus moves out or your pelvis and up in to your abdomen. This relieves pressure on your bladder and you shouldn't need to pee quite as frequently. Unsure on exactly when this happens week wise but I certainly wouldn't sorry.

I was peeing at about 2am and then again at 5.30am until about 9 weeks. Now I skip the 2am one.

gimmeadoughnut123 · 22/12/2018 19:11

Sorry, I clearly don't proof read and my phone's autocorrect hates me. I meant I wouldn't worry.
