Hi,

First post on here so I'm sorry I get any information wrong! (Still learning all the terminology!)

I believe I am 3+2 weeks pregnant. First pregnancy. Looking for some help please!

I started spotting last Monday at 2+1 weeks and thought it could be implantation, I also passed one "clot" with a white section in it. I let it carry on a few days just very light bloody sometimes brown but very light. On Friday at 2+5 I started heavy bleeding no pain and no cramping at all. Bleeding continued heavily for three days - no clots no symptoms just red watery blood, heavier when going to the toilet.

I took a pregnancy test on the Friday and it was a strong positive.

Saw the GP yesterday at 3+1 he said the bleeding could be normal but put my in touch with the EPU. They said they don't want to see me unless I'm having pains and changing a pad twice and hour (which I'm not - currently 1 a day)

Problem is - I just didn't know enough about pregnancy - I just want to know if I can be excited or not!? Am I still pregnant or not!?

Also - my last "period" was very much like the bleeding I had last week and it came early - I said this to my Dr and he said it could be a repeat episode of what I've just had - so he thinks I am actually 6+2 weeks pregnant!?

So lost on what to do and feeling very alone and frustrated!

I've not got a midwife or any contact details - should I call my GP to book in with the midwife!?

Thanks in advance

Sorry you're having a rough time.
To start with your dates are off, you need to date your pregnancy from the first day of your last period rather than past conception date. You would not get a positive at 2/3+ something, you must be 5/6 weeks at least.
If your bleeding has stopped I would suggest you do a repeat test after a week and see if you are still getting a positive and/or it's still as strong. If it's getting weaker but with no more bleeding I'd ask your surgery to do hcg bloods.
Be mindful of any pain, particularly in your shoulder. If in doubt go back to the gp.

Oh and no, unfortunately if you are still pregnant you're not far enough along to book in with the midwife yet. They don't want to see you until 8+ weeks usually.
Fingers crossed for you.

@Bitchfromhell thank you so much - I'm so new to this so any information is a positive learning experience for me!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. From your reply I'm thinking I must be 5-6 weeks (as per the last "proper" period I had, and that my last "period" may have been another one of these episodes.

The only thing throwing me off is a clear blue digital test I took yesterday saying 1-2 weeks pregnant - how accurate is this!?

Thanks so much

That's from date of conception, so from roughly when you ovulated/ implanted, not sure which.
I'd take another test a week after the last one and see if you're still getting positives. It's shit but you're too early to see much on a scan.

Clearblue tests show you gestational age of the embryo (so it would be 1-2 weeks since fertilisation), though pregnancies are normally measured in weeks from your last period. So 1-2 weeks on a Clearblue is 4-5 weeks in typical pregnancy terms.

Congrats on the pregnancy but sorry to hear about the confusing situation. Unfortunately many midwives, doctors and hospitals are not really sympathetic about early pregnancy since there's nothing much they can do if things go wrong. Ignore the advice from EPU about changing pads every two hours...any type of irregular bleeding could be a sign of ectopic pregnancy so they're obliged to scan you. Try ringing up at a different time when someone else might be on the phone and say you're worried about possible ectopic and they will definitely give you an appointment.

The actual risk of ectopic is very small so please don't actually stress about that. However it can definitely give you a peace of mind if you get an early scan and blood test. 6 weeks is enough to see an egg sac, and possibly even heartbeat. I had a similar experience where I had a positive pregnancy test after missed period, but constant spotting over 2 weeks. I arranged for a private scan at 6+4 (6 weeks, 4 days) and it actually showed a tiny dot with heartbeat. The bleeding tapered off soon after the scan. Sadly that pregnancy ended in miscarriage a few weeks later but I'm not sure if it's related to the bleeding at all...early pregnancy is a very confusing time as your hormones are all over the place. I'm currently 38weeks pregnant and had bleeding & period cramps in week 5 as well, but this time everything turned out well.
