Scan at 7+ 3 empty sac?

I had a private scan on Friday at 7 + 3 according to my cycle. Couldn’t see anything externally, and transvaginal showed only a gestational sac measuring 8mm, which the sonographer estimated to be 5 - 6 weeks. No yolk or heartbeat seen. Is it possible I’m off on my dates? I think I ovulate around cd 18/19, and the sonographer said I had a very retroverted uterus, could either of these explain why no heartbeat? I have a follow up scan booked for next week to check for changes, but wondering if I should ask for it to be done in EPU instead. Trying to stay positive, but this pregnancy follows mc 6 months ago and worried about history repeating.

Hi OP. I’m only replying as I saw it was a few minutes since you posted and no replies. I don’t know as when I had mine, scans weren’t done so early. What I can tell you, I had children after miscarriages. Please stay calm and not to worry right away.

I too have a tilted uterus. It’s ok and won’t cause you issue in pregnancy.

It impossible to say either way and i know the wait and worry is bloody awful, but it is just a horrible waiting game until you can have another scan.

I had something similar. Inconclusive scan at 6 weeks by my dates (i knew when i ovulated), showing egg sac but no featal pole. Was told it looked normal for about 5 weeks but I knew I was further on than that. Awful wait for nearly 2 weeks for a new scan which showed everything was fine and normal.
Weirder still as pregnancy has progressed scans have brought my due date closer?!?

Hi Littlegoth, I had a scan last week when I thought I was 9+6 however I was expecting to be a few days out as my cycle had been a bit irregular for the previous couple of months. Turned out I was over 2 weeks off and measured at 7+3. So it is definitely possible that your dates are off.

I’m not sure what you should be able to see at 5-6 weeks, but when I booked my scan they warned me that if I was less than 7 weeks they may not be able to detect the pregnancy and scan might have to be repeated.
