Heimlich Maneuver

Hi folks, im 6 and a half months pregnant and have a sizable bump. Was out for dinner with friends tonight and a lady in the restaurant started choking. Nobody seemed to know what to do and 1 person was giving her a very bad and ineffective heimlich. I had to help so I jumped up and gave her the heimlich twice and managed to dislodge what she was choking on. I remember worrying that it would harm my baby but had no choice so tried to get my belly lower and use my upper chest for thrusts. Wondering if bump will be ok or if I should go get checked out? Baby has moved a few times but normally very active at night (but then I'm normally reclining or in bed at that time of the night).

Well done you! Baby should be absolutely fine as they’re well cushioned but if you have any doubts at all contact your midwife. It’s better safe than sorry Flowers

Thank you. Cantrememberholiday I'm not a skinny mini and had some padding before bump so hope you're right. He/she normally wakes me up at 2am and 4am so will hopefully get that familiar "party time" feeling in a few hours. I dare say a jolt of adrenaline might disrupt the rhythm. X

I once read that there is not a lot that u can do to harm ur baby with movements bumps or whatever with all the cushioning and water they have..
I would say ur little bundle is fine..
And well done you!!

If ur concerned there is obvs no harm in contacting MW and asking her opinion

I'm sure your baby will be fine. And you did a good thing tonight.

Baby should be fine. Remember that pregnant mothers of toddlers often get kicked in the stomach by tantrumming two year olds and their babies are fine. Baby is will get a lot more squashed on the way out of you that he was tonight !

And well done on what you did .

What an incredible person you are! I know very little about what can affect your baby, but I just wanted to let you know! X
