I know it's approx £145 but does anyone know how much that is after national insurance and tax?

It would depend on your tax code, it goes through payroll so will have the same tax code applied.

And when you go and how much you have earned previous to going.

It depends on how much you earned previous to going on leave. If you have earned below the personal allowance, it wouldn't be taxed at all, as far as I'm aware.

If you have a job that pays comfortably over the personal allowance threshold (around £12k) then you will already have used that up this tax year. So you will lose about 28% of the SMP To tax and NI.

I’m just about to go on mat leave but I will be on full pay for 18 weeks and then drop down to SMP. So it will be the new tax year by then and I will have hardly used up any of my personal allowance so I will get to keep most of it IYSWIM. However you also need to factor in things like KIT days if you are doing any of those.

I think it's very dependent on individual tax codes etc. However, I've never had tax or ni deducted from smp and the first time smp started in October and the second time started in July. I actually had a small amount of tax back each month while I was on smp and got tax back all 3 months at the end when I was unpaid. You might be able to ask someone in your payroll department and they might be able to give you a better idea.
