35 weeks today. Have been lucky enough to have a pretty trouble free pregnancy until the start of this week when, seemingly out of nowhere, the right hand side of my lower back and right glute became exceptionally painful. Really, really sore. I'm OK if sitting or lying down, but walking is agony, every time I put weight on or off my right leg I feel sick with pain!

I have 2 older kids and I'm still working, so sitting still all day is not an option. The school run has been hell, as have no car so no choice but to walk.

I saw the osteopath on weds night and she said nothing major, everything seemed to be moving fine, I'm due to go back next week.

Taking paracetamol which is frankly doing sod all for the pain.

I'm active - used to doing lots of walking, dancing and swimming, which I have kept up throughout this pregnancy. But now I can barely stand up!

Anyone had anything similar? Just wanted to have a rant really Sad

Sounds like SPD. I have almost identical and I'm 27 weeks. This is my third pregnancy and I've never had this before. If you google it there's some advice around about how to lay down comfortably and things like that. It sucks and gets worse with activity

Bloody hell. I will have a google.

If it's just on one side it could be your sacroiliac joint. I'd see a physio rather than an osteopath.

I had exactly the same thing between weeks 31-32! It happened overnight, and was a sickening pain from the right buttock down to knees, sometimes even calves. Googling seemed to suggest sciatica but none of the stretching exercises or painkillers really helped.

I went to a private massage/physiotherapist and she got rid of it within 2 sessions! Turned out to be frozen connective tissue under the muscle which was restricting movement and pressing on the nerve. It hurt so much to put weight on my right leg so I was limping all the time, but that actually made the problem worse. She massaged out the knots and told me to make sure there is always good blood flow to the area. I took warm baths every night followed by warming muscle gel, and the pain has never come back.

Would heartily recommend a physio/masseuse who specialises in pregnancy. She also diagnosed mild SPD and prescribed a support belt. However the SPD is virtually non-noticeable compared to the other pain, so I haven't even bothered picking up the belt yet.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have a physio app on Monday. It's definitely now v much a pain in my right buttock that spreads down the leg a bit. It's causing me to limp badly, which is of course causing everything else to ache too as I am walking in a way that is all off balance. Have had a hot bath today and went for a v short walk, which was agony. Roll on physio on Monday!

I’d be interested to know how you get on OP, as I have started getting exactly this at about 26 weeks x
