Amoxicillin and paracetamol together?

Hey,

I have a bad chest infection and have been given amoxicillin 500mg to take I really didn't want to take them but have been advised it can be worse if I don't.
I have a really high temperature and been told to also take paracetamol.

I am 5 months pregnant and HATE taking any tablets!! Has anyone else took these together?

What concerns do you have? Just take them, they’ll do no harm to the baby.

DS1 has amoxycillin every time he has a secondary chest infection, he quite often takes paracetamol as well. No problem.

Yes, when I had a chest infection in pregnancy. It did the baby no harm and it was important that I was well.

They're very different drugs - an antibiotic and an analgesic. They don't interact. You're not doubling up on anything and it's not harmful. Take them.

Make sure you drink plenty of fluids as well

Honestly the doctor wouldn't prescribe and the pharmacy wouldn't dispense if they weren't completely safe. You're fine, it really will be worse if you don't. Paracetamol is fine to take as well, there's nothing that it interact with. You'll feel so much better!

Thanks everyone, just very paranoid incase it harmed the baby but it seems to be safe I will take them x

A prolonged high temp is much more harmful, which is why the paracetamol is important. They wouldn't be prescribed if you didn't need them. Hope you're feeling better soon

It’s harmful to the baby if you have a high temperature for a prolonged time, which is why they recommend taking paracetamol in this case.

It’s also harmful for the baby if you can’t breathe properly (due to a chest infection or asthma or whatever), as they rely on you for oxygen, so again that’s why they recommend the antibiotics.

I’ve taken them both on two occasions when I had a ruptured wisdom tooth and again with a chest infection - was told by GP and Dentist both totally safe in pregnancy
