Hi all I'm new!
I'm hoping to speak to some mamas who have had a family whilst taking SSRIs. I have a moderate anxiety disorder that's triggered by changing events (I know having a baby is the biggest one ha) but I don't want my anxiety to stop me from living my dream of being a mum. Has anyone else been in the same situation? Xx

Hi Mrsbrooks1. I was on Citalopram whilst TTC. I made the choice to wean off once I conceived but this isn't compulsory by any means. I'm very open to going back on it in due course if needed; dig down into the research and the negative side effects on the baby of a highly stressed mother during pregnancy are arguably worse than those from taking SSRIs.

I will say that I've been very struck by how on the ball 'the system' has been in supporting my mental health in pregnancy. I'm currently sitting waiting for meeting with the community mental health nurse and have also been referred to a consultant at the hospital to discuss medication options down the line. All of this was at the instigation of my midwife when I mentioned my history of mental health issues.

So, in short: needing SSRIs should in no way prevent you from trying to become a mother!
