When does the bump go?

I can’t work out whether this is a silly question or not but how long after birth does the stomach go down?

I under no illusion it won’t be the exactly h same (I never had a flat stomach in ththe first place) but obviously won’t have a baby bump forever?

50% immediately and most of the rest over the following month, I'd say. But it took me about 4-5 months to get back into my less forgiving jeans.

TheBrilloPad · 11/12/2018 14:04

After my first and second it was gone in two weeks. But #3 is 12 weeks old and there is definitely still a small bump there. I guess it depends on your muscles etc too

SoyDora · 11/12/2018 14:08

Entirely depends. Mine went down quite quickly (significantly reduced as soon as the baby was born the completely gone within about a week), some can take much longer. Depends how long you’re uterus takes to go back to it’s normal size/your stomach muscles etc.

Ah that’s good to know.
It’s not looks for me it’s the fact I realised that on purpose I’ve skimped on maternity clothes and I keep thinking ‘after January my normal clithes’

Then thought probably not!

So just trying to budget some money for some more as what I’ve bought is cheap and I’m wondering if they will last

Most of my bump has gone (DS is 10 months 😂) but my body has changed shape. My hips are wider and my boobs are bigger. Sadly it’s not all about the tummy

AmyDowdensLeftLeftShoe · 11/12/2018 19:26

My bump has gone after 3 months but I do need to tone my stomach up.

Oh and I fit into my normal clothes but due to not being at work and not going out to the same places I wear cheap Primark clothes or jogging bottoms.

Also as my bump was going down I found maternity clothes too big.

Lymphy · 11/12/2018 20:34

Mine disappeared on straight away both times totally depends

pacempercutiens · 12/12/2018 10:44

my bump went down after a few weeks, my maternity clothes were immediately too big (when I got back in proper clothes :P) so I ended up buying a few cheap and cheerful items a size up from my "normal" size. I got back to my "normal" size a few months later.

MeadowHay · 12/12/2018 11:17

Most of it went pretty immediately tbh. I gave birth around 10am on the Tuesday and left hospital around midday on the Wednesday and I was wearing a maternity t-shirt and joggers that I bought whilst pregnant in a size up from my normal size that I wore underneath my tummy, obviously it was still kinda big but not like a big pregnant bump iyswim. I BF initially and lost the weight and tummy bump thing much quicker than I expected, after a few weeks I looked pretty much back to normal, and could fit in my old tops and any bottoms that were elastic, but not my old skinny jeans/tight skirts etc. I thought perhaps I never would, however I tried them again around 12 weeks PP and could fit back into them. I'm actually lighter now than pre-pregnancy though - I think if I was the same weight as pre-pregnancy, I don't think I would fit into them anymore, because my tummy is deffo a bit like...softer and stretched, so I have to actually be lighter to fit into the same size, iyswim?

OutPinked · 12/12/2018 12:35

Totally depends on the person. I’m six weeks PP and still have a slight ‘bump’ but this is my fourth DC and all of my babies were on the larger side. I do BF as well so that’s not always a sure way of getting it down quickly. Your body definitely alters, my hips have been wider ever since I had DC1 and breasts have never quite been the same.

tissuesosoft · 12/12/2018 12:36

Asda maternity clothes are great and last

hammeringinmyhead · 12/12/2018 16:36

Six weeks postpartum and breastfeeding here. I look about 12 weeks maybe? I am back to pre-pregnancy weight though still wearing maternity leggings.

mortifiedmama · 12/12/2018 17:39

Personally mine went almost immediately, within days. But I never fitted back in my pre-pregnancy clothes, despite weighing less than before. It was because my hips grew in pregnancy and never went back. Ended up having to buy all new trousers.
