Pre-eclampsia

I had pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy, along with IUGR. I've already been started on aspirin this pregnancy and have my first consultant appointment at the end of the month.

I'm just wondering, what the chances of me getting it my second pregnancy are? Will the aspirin really help, or is it not a guarantee?

Sorry, slight random questions, I don't really know what I want to ask 😕

I'm 18 weeks into my second pregnancy having had pre-eclampsia in my first. Is this pregnancy with the same partner as your first? Consultant told me that if dad is the same it reduces the risk of recurrence.

Following my consultant appointment she put my risk of getting it again at less than 10% (my DH is father of both my son and this baby). My understanding is that benefits of aspirin in this situation outweigh risks so it is worth taking it. Obviously you may have different risk factors but it's definitely not a certainty that you'll get it again by any stretch.

They are keeping a closer eye on me and I'm having more midwife appointments than is standard to keep an eye on BP.

Consultant was very reassuring when I had my appointment, hope yours is too!

I had sudden eclampsia in my 1st son born at 31 weeks and started on asprin when pregnant with my 2nd and she was also born at 31 weeks due to pre eclampsia but was kept an eye on and more controlled 2nd time I think chances are pretty high to get it again I am now pregnant for the 3rd time I know I'm crazy! I wish you all the best of luck xx
