Wheelchair pram adapter

Hi everyone,

My mum is disabled and uses a self-propelled wheelchair but can't push herself most of the time. My first baby is due in May 19 and I'm struggling to work out how I will be able to push a pram and a wheelchair at the same time.

Unfortunately my mum won't be able to use a baby sling or carrier due to her disability.

I've been doing some research and found some good ideas but none of them have got past the design stage (the Curium Stroller is an example - www.yankodesign.com/2012/06/29/wheelchair-adaptive-stroller/)

Does anyone know if there is anything out there? If anyone has any advice or experience of this, I'd be really grateful! Smile

Can’t you use a sling, and push the wheelchair?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I also have a problem with my back so not sure if that would be an option

It sounds like it could be time/good for your mum to look at an electric wheelchair option. It might allow you all to do more together.

Hi. I use a wheelchair full time. DD2's birth is imminent.

With my first DC, ten years ago I really struggled. I used a sling, but I see your mum can't.

This time round I plan on buying a buggy board that has a seat fitted. It won't be suitable until DD is old enough to sit, but I think it'll be very useful when I need to take her out by myself.

There are adapted pushchairs out there, but incredibly hard to come across.

Do you have anyone around who is handy with DIY?
I'm planning on trying a pushchair with removable back wheels, which is then clamped to the frame of my chair.
Not sure how well that will work yet, but will be a good experiment.

Thanks @Allthebubbles. It is something we have considered. My mum has a neurological condition and suffers from tremors. She also has trouble with her coordination so struggles operating an electric wheelchair.

@Pepper123123 - thanks for the buggy board idea, I'll definitely look into that. I'll ask around my family to see if anyone is good at DIY. Good luck with your experiment!

I found a freewheel attachment which you can use with a car seat which I thought was a good idea too -www.invictusactive.com/solutions/wheelchair-pram-attachment/
