Can I ask why you’re having one so early?

Ilovestormwinter · 07/12/2018 22:48

My two previous baby’s where 9lb 13oz and 10lb 8oz no medical problems just big baby’s they are saying this one isn’t going to be big max 9lb but I think she will be around the same size.

I can see why you want them out early!

v101 · 07/12/2018 23:56

I had a sweep at 40 weeks and gave birth at 41 weeks..I don't think it helped me personally. All the best :)

Ilovestormwinter · 08/12/2018 14:26

Thank you hope it works

I didn't realise you could have them done before 40 weeks - I had them with all 3 of my babies and none of them worked! Admittedly I think only the third time they managed to get to cervix, body just wasn't ready

Sweep at 38 weeks, baby fully engaged. Labour started within four hours and baby born the following day.

Ilovestormwinter · 08/12/2018 21:55

This has gave me some hope I go Thursday so fingers crossed I have her by the weekend they want to leave me go over but I don't want to be delivery a 12lb baby naturally Envy as all they say is you had a 10lb 8 baby naturally u can do it again if you need to fingers crossed this works

Sweeps only tend to work if you are pretty much ready to go into labour, and it doesn’t sound like you are yet... They can’t force a labour, more like tip you over the edge when it’s about to start anyway. Don’t get your hopes up too much and try again in another week?

gallicgirl · 08/12/2018 23:43

Ask for a bishops score. This basically gives an indication of how ready your cervix is. If it ain't ready, there's not much point having a sweep.

confuddeledconfuddel · 08/12/2018 23:45

Yep me. Due to big baby hard sweep at 38 weeks and nothing. Did another at 38+4 and less than 24 hrs later bub had arrived

SoyaSoy · 08/12/2018 23:45

I had a sweep at 38 weeks and it was absolute agony. I had to have gas and air it was so painful. No idea why!

I ended up being induced as it didn't work :( then had precipitous labour and baby was out in less than an hour!

But! My friend had a sweep at 37+1 and baby was born naturally 13 hours later!

Lilyabelle · 08/12/2018 23:46

I had a sweep at 38 weeks on a Thursday and DC was born just after midnight on the Friday. I was a little sceptical it would work as I had sweeps with my first born (at 40 weeks) and nothing happened.

Ilovestormwinter · 09/12/2018 00:21

Oh so they is some hope what weight was your baby when they arrived ?

@Ilovestormwinter my LG was 8lb 9oz. 38+5 (just about, was born 6am)
I bounced on my ball a lot afterwards to get pressure down onto cervix - best of luck

Lilyabelle · 10/12/2018 11:52

@Ilovestormwinter DS2 was 7lbs 9oz - just 4oz lighter than DS1 who was 5 days overdue. Has there been any movement yet?! Sending you lots of luck!

Ilovestormwinter · 10/12/2018 16:48

Thank you no movement yet just lots of back pain and lost my mucas plug (I think)
Got another sweep booked in for Thursday hope it work I think there so wrong about her size she feels bigger than my other at this point ! X

@Ilovestormwinter good luck.

They want to give me a sweep at 37 weeks and I'm sceptical that it will work. I'm 42 and they are concerned about reduced movements late in pregnancy (I'm only 17 weeks at the moment).

My last baby was born of her own accord at 39+3.

I get the impression from others that a sweep is pretty unpleasant and only works if baby is ready to come any way. But having never experienced one myself (yet) I can only encourage you to bounce on your ball like a good 'un!!!
