Pain au chocolat? Oh ok then.
Salad? Museli? Which I usually eat loads of... eugh, pass the bucket!

I thought Mother Nature was a bit cleverer than this?

All I want to eat at the moment is Wotsits.

beansprout · 24/06/2007 11:12

And yet the first trimester is so important blah, blah. So why does Mother Nature fail so badly?!

Tamdin · 24/06/2007 11:15

LOL Bean. all i could eat for first 14 weeks was bread in any shape or form and crisps esp wotsits! all my usual healthy eating made me want to barf. It was at least 6 months post baby before i could eat an avocado again

TrinityRhino · 24/06/2007 11:17

all I could eat for the vfirst few months was melon and crisps

then I stopped feeling sick and gorged on crap food esp. kfc

policywonk · 24/06/2007 11:39

One of the explanations, I think, is that you tend to feel most nauseous about the things that are most likely to contain dangerous bacteria - meat, fish, fruit/veg. Bread, crisps and so on are relatively 'safe' foods, I suppose.

Sorry you're feeling rank. Tis horrible. I got through my entire pregnancies on plain pasta, crisps and muller rice.

beansprout · 24/06/2007 11:40

Interesting theory policywonk.

ah yes, complex carbs and sugary things

i was around 9 weeks pg at christmas

ate mountains of mince pies

sandcastles · 24/06/2007 11:44

But mother nature is clever, she enables us to eat crap for 9 months!

compo · 24/06/2007 11:46

You have my sympathy.
I couldn't go near oily fish for the first 16 weeks - it didn't help that all the books/midwives etc go on about how good it is for you all the time

BellaBear · 24/06/2007 12:00

I had a burger king whopper yesterday - I had to have it, just had to - I haven't had one for over three years.
I am eating my way through a packet of crackers now. But the whopper was bloody delicious.

sazzybee · 24/06/2007 12:23

I ate KFC when I was pg which I don't think I've eaten for about 15 years. Surely that can't be bacteria-safe

Dawnybabe · 24/06/2007 12:30

I ate nothing but crap through most of my pregnancy and posted on here about it I was so worried. I now have a good stone of extra weight that I still haven't been able to shift six months on, and a big baby who can eat a lot more than the weaning book says she should be able to. I think she's gonna end up like her mother. Just a warning......

MamaMaiasaura · 24/06/2007 12:35

beansprout - now exactly what you mean. Am feeling bleuurrgh right now. Hoped a few after eight mints would help as toast and fruit havent. Veering towards a packet of wotsits.

When preg with ds I had to eat Macdonalds or Burger King even when I was in labour got exp to take me to the Macdonalds regretted it as put on a lot of wieght. I would eat a couple of happy meals in a row. Also craved Dr Pepper - yuck.

This time am drinking lemonade. Wont touch diet kind because of apartasames & phenalime (sp?) etc - only 7up and sprite are free from yucky things like that

Indith · 24/06/2007 12:50

I ate loads of Crap, lots and lots of frozen pizza on the basis that raw food smelled horrible and I was fed up of burning my food as I couldn't stand being in the kitchen while it cooked. And standing in the queue at the butchers...god that was bad!

Had a sneaky MD too, can't remember when I last had one before that. Snuck in while hopping with a friend. Was terrified Dp would find out, he is VERY anti MD, KFC etc.

Caz10 · 24/06/2007 16:50

Mmmm on the subject of crap that relieves ms can I recommend dairylea dunkers, but ONLY the jumbo tube ones....YUM!

mad4girls · 24/06/2007 17:43

awen-glad to here about sprite as thats the only thing i can drink everything else tastes too sweet or too bland

i am size of house and keep stuffing my face with curries/kebabs as everything else tastes funny, the theory is for me anyway that these foods have strong tastes so still taste "NORMAL" even with pgy hormones runing round

i dont care anyway i refuse to feel guilty as have been eating lots of other healthy fruit and veg which is more than i managed with dd2 but was being sick like 20 times a day and lost 2 stone last time could have done with the weight loss this time, but still glad i dont feel any where near as bad as last time.

clop · 24/06/2007 17:48

Today I picked up Anna Karmel book on pregnancy+1st year -- the book where she discusses everything about babies, including lots about what to eat during pregnancy.

I thought, "What? You're supposed to eat during the first 4 months? Why doesn't my body know that?!"

Bread and crisps supposedly low bacteria food bread is something I can least tolerate when pg. The yeast upsets me.
And I can't stand crisps because of the high salt.
But chocolate, roll on choclate, that and fruit are only safe (ish) items!!

beansprout · 24/06/2007 20:29

Can I just say that, thanks to this thread, I now really want to eat cheesy wotsits?!!

OP posts:
Kathyis6incheshigh · 24/06/2007 20:36

The first thing I ate when I started to eat again after HG was supernoodles. No danger of any bacteria living in there

beansprout · 24/06/2007 20:37

Oh god, I quite fancy a Pot Noodle now. And I usually veer towards the lentil side of things. Oh the shame

I went right off chocolate with DS1 but suddenly had a craving need for hula hoops several times a day.
When I got pregnant with DS2, DH went out and duly bought several bags of them and I couldn't face them but really needed a mars bar every day
With DS3, it was wine gums that stopped me feeling sick!

morningglory · 24/06/2007 22:02

In my first pregnancy, I really craved the fake yellow cheese on McDonalds cheeseburgers (called American cheese in the US ). I even wrote to the Kraft people to see where they sold the yellow American cheese here in the UK. They never responded. I tried the darylea stuff, and it was close, but not quite it.

Then, I craved watermelon. LOTS of it. I'd eat half a watermelon a day (my second trimester was during a hot summer). Needless to say, all that watermelon prevented me from really putting on the pounds...until the third trimester, when all I wanted was Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

This time, I need chocolate - the really rich, dark stuff. Today I had a cup of hot chocolate made by melting a bar of dark chocolate in whole milk, and then adding a scoop of chocolate ice cream. Yum.

Then of course, I got a bunch of McDonalds coupons in the mail yesterday and somehow, I can't get it out of my mind now. You know, I could really go for a Big mac.....
