Should I go to A&E?

Hello, I am just 12 weeks. Last week on Saturday I had a gush of water which seemed to me to be my waters, ever since I've had trickles of water here and there. I phoned the midwife who told me to get in touch with the GP. Had an appointment this morning. The GP said it didn't sound good and thought id ought to get seen at the hospital. I mentioned that I have a 12 week dating scan booked on monday. So she said it would probably be ok to wait until then, just watch out for any signs of infection. Part of me wants to go to A&E. But I realise they will probably turn me away as I should have a referral from the GP. Just asking for advice on what to do? I know there is nothing I can do if it is that but I am worried about getting an infection. X

Can you not contact your EPU rather than A&E?? I really hope it will be a positive outcome for you.

Hello cheers for the reply. I need a referral from the GP to go to the EPU here. I think I will just have to wait until monday and hope for the best. I will give an update when I know whats going on x

How worrying for you. I really hope you get positive news on Monday. Flowers

Personally I'd turn up at a&e and see what they say. I'm sure that they can phone the EPU. Infection can be serious so I wouldn't be comfortable with a watch and wait approach

A&E won't do anything. They will suggest EPU. You need a referral for the EPU.

I don't think at 12 weeks you really have enough "waters" to gush out and be dripping too.
I think it's more likely to be the massive amounts of vaginal discharge that are a delightful pregnancy surprise. I wouldn't worry about the pregnancy too much but EPAU is the place for reassurance.

I'm not even sure they do fibronectin tests under 20 weeks

mortifiedmama · 07/12/2018 17:45

A&E are very unlikely to do anything. They won't even scan you as the scan department will be closed now. Also, there is nothing they can do if it is the worst. You'll be wasting hours of your time to be told to go to your scan on Monday.

Cheers everyone for the replies, I decided to wait until monday. I will give an update after my scan 😊

If you’re worried it’s your waters then make sure you avoid having a bath/using a pool and avoid intercourse for now as a precaution against infection x

Hello just an update to let you know that all went well at the scan. Measuring 13 weeks. I might now need to invest in some tenna ladies Grin thankyou for the advice x
