Hellooo I’m 13 weeks pregnant and I am so constipated. I’m eating dried fruit, drinking lots of water, I’ve had infrequent doses of lactulose. It’s driving me crazy! I’m now getting pains when I try to go and in my stomach during the day. And after having a miscarriage before this one in the summer it’s making me very paranoid. Any go to or old wives tales to help me go?!

Prunes and Prune juice, I believe theres something in prunes that helps to soften it, also get a wee stool to raise your knees above your hips, it help!

Cheesenacho123 · 06/12/2018 14:47

Fresh fruit is probably better than dried. Mango is a good one however stay away from bananas as they can make it worse. Prune juice is good too

Seeded loaf worked for me. Got it from Aldi and had two slices every morning.

You need fresh fruit & veg, not dried (full of sugar!) Plus LOTS of water. No stodge. Plenty if exercise and a bathroom routine. If that fails, regular movicol and Dulcosoft. A morning coffee works for a lot of people too.

Try Laxido (OTC) it works a charm and safe to take when pg and long term.

Could try glycerin suppositories as well as advice above.

If you are really desperate you could ask GP phosphate enemas.

Kiwis and fybogel every day!

I'm just over 9w and massively constipated, admittedly I'm only really eating carbs so I'm not too shocked. I flit between constipation and loose last time I was constipated I had a milky coffee and that helped - which always does for me but isn't something I'd want to do regular!

CharrinCornwall91 · 06/12/2018 16:03

Thankyou for all your suggestions ladies, @michelle0507 yes I feel your pain this is the first week I’ve felt human my morning sickness has warn off so previous to that my diet hasn’t been great if eating anything at all. So I’m trying to start getting some greens fibre etc in me now! Il stock up on fruit later, I have one coffee in the morning, drink 2 litres of water a day so I’m not doing too bad! I want to try natural remedies before medical intervention, hope it doesn’t come to that!

@charrincornwall91 I've been quite lucky with morning sickness I had it around 5/6 week more feeling sick and dry heaving. It worries me hugely I've not got morning sickness as I've had 2 losses but I'm quite pleased and what's to say it won't come later on!

Fibre one bars! 5g of fibre compared to maybe 1g in fruit. I eat about 3 a week and still only go twice a week but it's better than how I was before.

I hear you OP, loud and clear.

I’ve found porridge topped with chia seeds for breakfast quite effective. Along with a ton of water.

Apples
Fresh orange juice with bits
Homemade lentil soup

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 06/12/2018 19:49

Another vote for prune juice 🙋🏿‍♀️

INeedNewShoes · 06/12/2018 19:52

Kiwi fruit
Pears
Keep really well hydrated

Good luck. I remember the hell of constipation in pregnancy all too well!
