Birth ball

I’m booked for a home birth and would like to get a birth ball to use for the next few weeks and in labour. Can I just buy a yoga ball or does it specifically have to be a birth ball?
Thanks

I just used a yoga ball from a sports shop for my home birth. I'm prepared to be told that I'm wrong, but I'd understood that birth/medicine/yoga balls were just different names for the same thing.

Make sure you get the right size for your height, and it's probably worth paying a few pounds extra for the non-burst ones, just in case!

I hardly used mine in labour, but it was such a blessing as a comfortable seat in the last few weeks of pregnancy, and the first couple of weeks after giving birth.

Good luck with everything!

Thank you. A non burst one would be best 😂 lol. I bought one in my first pregnancy 12 years ago and never used it in labour but like you say i’m wanting to sit on it now as I’m almost 37 weeks and getting uncomfortable.
Can I ask what else you’d recommend buying for a home birth? I’ve just bought two cheap shower curtains and some disposable pads to put down as recommended by midwife. Anything else I’d need?
Thank you

I got a cheap of from amazon for £5 and it is honestly the best thing I’ve bought during my pregnancy. I got quite a large one but saw somewhere to make sure it is big enough that your legs would be at a right angle when you are sitting in it.

I think I just searched for yoga ball or exercise ball coz I found pregnancy ball but a few extra £ on!

Thank you. I’ve ordered one from amazon and it’s coming tomorrow. I had to get a smaller one as I’m just over 5ft and my feet wouldn’t have reached the floor Grin
