No letter for my 12 week scan

When did everyone get there letters for there 12 week scan. I’m 11 weeks and still not received a letter about mine. Is this normal, do you receive a letter or are you supposed to ring someone.

First baby and have no idea what to expect and I’ve not really received any info from my midwife - they didn’t even tell me EDD at my booking appointment.

I got the letter for my 12 week scan in the same envelope I got my booking appointment letter in. So you definitely should have had it by now. Phone up the midwife asap because there is only a small window in which the 12 week checks can be done. I think by 13 weeks it’s too late to get the nuchal measurement if I remember correctly.

Kescilly · 06/12/2018 11:17

I specifically asked my midwife what I should do if I didn’t get a letter. She said that if I didn’t hear anything by eleven weeks, I should call. I would be proactive about this because as mentioned, there’s a short window in which to do the measurements (if you’re opting for the NT screening).

Littlefrog99 · 06/12/2018 11:19

I didn't get a letter for mine. The scan was booked at my booking appointment at 8 weeks and written in my green book.

Kescilly · 06/12/2018 11:19

Also you might be further along than you realize. My due date was moved up by six days compared to my LMP calculation! So definitely call today.

Kay1341 · 06/12/2018 11:20

You get your EDD based on the 12 week scan. Downs and other tests are done between 10 and 14 weeks, so week 13 is not too late but I'd get in touch to chase up the scan date.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 06/12/2018 11:21

My district are useless! I called the department at 11 weeks saying "I've lost my letter can can't remember the time" and they just told me. Glad I did as the letter actually arrived after the appointment date.

TooSkoolForKool · 06/12/2018 11:21

I never received a letter for mine either!! I called the midwife and she told me a letter had been sent however I hadn't received it. She told me the date and time on the phone and advised that the hospital would send another one out ASAP. This never turned up either.
If I was you I would definitely phone and enquire. If I hadn't I would of missed mine

mumofmunchkin · 06/12/2018 11:37

I didn't receive a letter. Rang and it turned out the referral hadn't gone through properly. Definitely ring and chase it.

Firesidetreats1 · 06/12/2018 11:43

Thanks everyone. Is it the antenatal unit at the hospital that I’d ring?

ring them for sure! I got a letter at 11 weeks for 13 weeks and by the time I went to scan I was 13+5 but baby length was in the 14+2 region so it was too late to have the tests done. The can do the test between 11 weeks and 14+1.

Good luck!

SilverbytheSea · 06/12/2018 11:47

I had rang my midwife and she chased it up, happened for both my 12 week and 20 week scan. So annoying.

TokenGinger · 06/12/2018 12:41

I didn't get a letter. I went to my booking in appointment and at that, they told me when my scan would be.

teacuptale · 06/12/2018 12:45

I would definitely chase it, but it’s possible they just haven’t sent out the letter yet. With my first, I didn’t get the letter until I was 12 weeks and the scan was a few days later. Do phone though- you never know if the referral has gone astray.

tablelegs · 06/12/2018 13:06

I was 16 weeks when I got my 12 week scan. Baby was too wriggly at actual 12 week scan so no measurements or due date given.

All measurements and screening done at 16 weeks.

Firesidetreats1 · 06/12/2018 13:21

So we’re you still able to get the test for Down’s syndrome etc or was it too late?

Worieddd · 06/12/2018 13:56

Text message round our way.
I would get in touch with them

MadameJosephine · 06/12/2018 14:01

Combined screening can be done up to 14+1 weeks, if you were further on than that the option for Down’s screening would be the quadruple test which is not as accurate. If this is important to you then I’d definitely give the antenatal clinic a call to make sure your appointment hasn’t slipped through the net

thismeansnothing · 06/12/2018 14:10

Varies by area. Where I am you have to ring the ultrasound department and book it yourself.

Lauren5071 · 06/12/2018 18:37

I haven’t received any post from the antenatal department. Had to go in for a blood test with my midwife and she asked if I’d had my scan yet as she estimates me to be around 12 weeks. I called up the antenatal clinic and was told it was booked for 9am the next morning. They had sent a letter but I never received it. It’s a mystery as to why I’ve received absolutely no correspondence from them, including 20 week scan, consultant appointment etc.

Lauren83 · 06/12/2018 18:57

I had my booking in appt today at the hospital (10 weeks 4 days) and they made the scan appt whilst I was there for 12 weeks 5 days

jellybeann · 06/12/2018 19:54

I was on holiday and came home on a Sunday when I was 11+5 to find I still had no letter! I rang my midwife on the Monday morning, she was very apologetic! She rang the hospital for me immediately and then rang me back 5 minutes later with an appointment at the hospital for the next morning!

Will vary in different areas, but just ring your midwife who will either solve it for you or tell you who else you need to call :)

MissFloof · 08/12/2018 17:25

I would contact someone. I had a letter posted and my postman gave it to the wrong building. I didn't know about it and missed my appointment, I only found out because of a call from the midwife :(

Contact your gp and they should be able to give you a number to call :)

Firesidetreats1 · 08/12/2018 17:42

Thanks everyone the letter ended up coming yesterday. I’ve got my appointment in a week and a bit.
