Did you have it first time?

HJWT · 05/12/2018 17:42

@strawberrypenguin yes sorry forgot to mention that !! They said last pregnancy if I have anymore they will test me earlier xx

KitKatCHA · 05/12/2018 17:44

I've had it three times, can't remember exactly when I was tested but was definitely before 20 weeks for the second. Earlier in the third, around 14 weeks-ish

HJWT · 05/12/2018 17:46

@KitKatCHA gosh that's early! I'm looking forward to all the needle pricks again and medication making me be sick woohoo! Not 😂

I had it in my first pregnancy and have been told I'll be tested at 17 and 28 weeks this time.

HJWT · 05/12/2018 17:50

@coastergirl I'm not pregnant yet but TTC soon and couldn't remember what they had said last time!

Did anyone have to go on medication earlier the second time round ? I always had high blood sugar first thing in the morning

I was tested at 16 weeks and 28 weeks, picked up at the second test. I was on metformin just as quick as I was first time but got put on insulin at 33 weeks this time for fasting levels, managed on metformin in my first pregnancy.

OneMoreWish · 05/12/2018 18:33

Ooh I had gestation diabetes first time round too and they told me to expect it second pregnancy. I'm 7 weeks and. Due to see midwife in a fortnight for booking in.

Useful to know timing for second test and like OP I'm dreading needle pricks and for a longer duration.

For those who had it/ were tested in second pregnancy

  1. did trying to cut sugar out/ eat bette r when found out pregnant help at all (maybe delay when it starts)

  2. I ended pregnancy last few weeks on metformin. Did you find you needed to control with metformjn earlier?

Cheers x

Buttonsareforever · 05/12/2018 19:10

I had it in my last pregnancy, diagnosed at 12 weeks. I was told If I fall pregnant again (which I have) I would be treated right from the start as if I had it regardless if I did or not. I'm about 8 weeks and not told them yet to prolong the whole needle, medication and injection ordeal! I will tell them soon, maybe in another week or 2, I'm going through a sugar binge atm 😁 x

strawberrypenguin · 05/12/2018 20:19

They should definitely test you in second pregnancy then. Have you had your booking appointment yet?
I mentioned it very early on to my GP and they sent me along to the next GD clinic and got me straight under consultant care at the beginning of my pregnancy.

rachelvbwho · 05/12/2018 20:23

I am currently pregnant with my second and I had GD the first time round. I just had my booking appointment with the midwife (6 weeks) and she said I will be tested between 8-16 weeks.... not looking forward to it again 😞

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 05/12/2018 20:24

I had it in my second pregnancy. At my booking appointment for my 3rd, they make me an appointment straight away so had the GD test at 9 weeks

HJWT · 05/12/2018 20:32

GOD! 6 Bloody weeks !!!! I'm planning on eating healthily from the first positive as I said not pregnant yet! But god 6 weeks 😩 no sneaky chocolate bars then!!!

I had it with my toddler, pregnant again, due to be tested on Friday at 16 weeks, then again at 26 weeks if it's negative the first time.

HJWT · 05/12/2018 21:55

I'm really struggling with it tbh! Especially since last time I had to go to the hospital once a week, and the wait was a joke... now the price of parking has gone up to starting £5! It's a joke 🤭

Midwife referred me straight away so had my first diabetic clinic appt at about 10 weeks. Was asked to monitor straight off 4 times a day. Started metoformin at 16 weeks but sugars started creeping up at 14 weeks (I didn't tell them just kept monitoring). Upped to 2x metformin from 18 weeks.

Was told treatment is almost certainly needed EARLIER in second and subsequent pregnancies. First time I was diagnosed at 28 weeks (standard testing) and was moved from
Metformin to insulin quite quickly (maybe 31:32 weeks). They said because I'm already on 2x Metformin I'll probably need insulin a lot earlier

HJWT · 06/12/2018 09:15

@autumnleaves19 That's not good is it 😩

Sorry to jump on this thread. I'm 25 weeks and I have no history of diabetes and the only signs of GD on the net it is frequent urination and tiredness which are all fairly common pregnancy symptoms which I've always had, but I'm a bit concerned about how big I am, so am wondering if you get tested without any prior history and if there are any other signs that I might be missing?

It was not a concern before, but I'm getting tons of comments about how big my belly is and am craving very sweet foods all the time. Not sure whether to ask midwife or not, as I think I might be putting 2 and 2 together and making 7!

HJWT · 06/12/2018 09:54

@Hmmmbiscuits I don't think there's any symptoms for it tbh I didn't think I had it and was a big shock that I did, I was only tested due to my dad having type 2 but he drinks a lot of alcohol and is over weight? Maybe just mention it to your midwife if you concerned but every pregnancy is different, they will measure your bump or if your overweight usually give a scan and they will be able to tell if your on the right track for growth or not! X

When did everyone have there second baby then ?? Was you induced or did they let you go full term ?? With my DD I was induced 10 days before due date xx

OP posts:
Hmmmbiscuits · 06/12/2018 09:59

Thanks HJWT.

I don't have an appointment until the end of December as it's my second pregnancy, but if I continue growing at this rate I might request seeing her sooner.

HJWT · 08/12/2018 22:13

Can I also ask how strict everyone else with themselves ???

I'm jumping in here to have a whinge. 2nd pregnancy, GD diagnosed with GTT in 1st pregnancy. I'm on my 2nd full day of monitoring today and nothing has been right. I have had one sensible test result. Last time it was controlled by diet, but my morning fasting results are coming back high. I'm already suffering from Hyperemesis and have just spent Thurs/Friday in hospital on fluids. It's such a stupid balancing act between my dehydration and my blood sugar levels that I just don't know how I am going to cope. I just want to cry!! To keep my ketones down I have to eat, and carbs help. But that obviously opposite for sugars.

What can you so tell me about metformin? How did it make you feel? How often did you have to take it? Was it effective?

Im currently 15+2. I refused the GTT due to nausea but they did specific bloods at 12 weeks and my blood plasma glucose levels were high.

HJWT · 09/12/2018 09:43

@SassehMonsta make sure you tell them you will only take it if it is the slow release version!! Omg the other stuff made me feel like I was dieing !! And my midwife said most women can't take the regular one and she doesn't know why the doctors prescribe it!!

What are you eating?

OP posts:
SassehMonsta · 09/12/2018 11:25

Currently struggling to eat much thats sensible, but have just made a batch of Daal to Have for lunch. When I have been feeling really rough, it's just been white bread or toast, with a bit of jam. Which is obviously not very GD friendly.

Went shopping with my mum yesterday so bought plenty of stuff for cooking, but can only stomach actually being in the kitchen when I don't have strong nausea.
