I need some advice! I’m 14 weeks pregnant and I’ve definitely got an infection with my gums. I have a lump on the inside of my cheek and it is growing around my wisdom tooth causing me pain. I’m struggling to shut my mouth 😭

My dentist won’t see me, I can imagine a&e will tell me to go dentist. can I sign up in another dentist and be seen straight away? Or is there like an out of hours that will help? Please I’m suffering so much 😫

Is there an dental emergency service in your area? I'd go to ooh or call 111 for advice.
Why won't your dentist see you?

@JohnLapsleyParlabane no spaces available until next week 😭 I don't want to have time off work!

I would arrange a GP appointment for before the dentist appointment next week. If you've got an infection you may need antibiotics.

When I had this, my dentist (who is totally fab) told me to use an interdental brush where he lump was. He told me it would bleed lots (and he wasn't wrong) and to do that 3 times a day and if it didn't get better to see him. His reasoning was that tgatnus what he'd do to me at the surgery, rather than anything more invasive. He said if it was the start of an abscess then that would drain it and sort the issue, which in his opinion was likely due to trapped food, which is more common in pregnancy as gums are more swollen.

It worked after one good brush! Hurt and bled though!

On the advice of my Dentist, I used Corsodyl mouthwash for the same issue in pregnancy. Wash round your mouth as normal, then hold it at the affected area for 1 minute. Do this twice a day. It shifted my infection pretty quickly!

I also dipped a cotton bud in Anbesol liquid and scrubbed around the swollen area. Hurt like the devil but as it has a local anaesthetic in it it doesn't hurt for long.

Keep bothering the Dentist, if it doesn't shift you may need antibiotics.
